Hey Y'all... Now I know a lot of y'all single action, revolver, and cowboy action folks have seen the movie "The Quick And The Dead"... The question be'n is, do y'all practice with both hands ? Thought y'all might also enjoy this video link as well. Has a unexpected surprise ending then that of the actual movie. :what:

I don't. All of my revolvers and loads require two hands to keep the front sight blade out of your forehead. :D

Some but nowhere near enough.

Folks are usually very critical of The Quick and the Dead but I loved it. Goofy special effects and script elements aside, there was some great leather, guns, costumes and characters.

I can shoot very well left handed, but no quick draws or twirling it on my finger on that side. :D I also have to close my dominant right eye to shoot lefty.

Now... ain't that the truth... Right eye dominant here and I always seem to turn the wrong way and make myself cross eyed lol.

eh...are you asking if we practice shooting Weak Hand Only (WHO) and Strong Hand Only (SHO)?

I practice both. For target accuracy (top pic) and for speed (bottom pic).

WHO (upper left), SHO (upper right), 2-handed (bottom):

I have done some weak hand shooting as needed for qualification, but I am not much good at it, so in the scenario where the bad guy blows off my right arm I guess I won't just ignore the pain and blood, shift the gun to my left hand and carry on the shootout. But maybe if I practiced more....

'Course, if you used a SAA, I believe you could do better.

It's not a SAA, but I've long wanted a Freedom Arms to wring out. One day... ;)

If there's no hurry, I can shoot about as well left-handed as right-handed. When there's a need for speed the difference becomes very pronounced...

I've always shot with both eye's open, it feels natural for me.

When I'm shooting a scoped rifle, I have to consciously force myself to close my left eye, but I know I've definitely shot plenty of times with both open, but my left eye just naturally cancels it's self out I guess, so it's no real problem for me either way. It's actually seems kind of advantageous though, cause I feel like I'm able to acquire my target a little but quicker when hunting.

As for shooting single handed, the loads I shoot are not that which anyone would want to deliberately shoot one handed. Many moons ago I did try once to fan a DA SBH revolver, and with full house 296 loads. That was a big, big stupid mistake. I ended up getting my left hand ripped wide open. I think either the sight blade got me, or maybe it was the hammer, either way, it sure didn't go well. I thought I had things all worked out, don't we always though when we do something stupid? I'm just lucky I didn't shoot myself in the foot.

When I had shoulder surgery right arm in sling for 6 weeks. Starting shooting left and found I like it. Now I switch hands several time during my range time. Most difficult thing is making sure which eye I use. Easy to use wrong eye.

I've surprised myself by shooting BETTER groups WHO then SHO. I chalk it up to focusing on the basics to a better degree when shooting WHO.

I've also noodled around in a couple of monthly fun matches by shooting in the Gunfighter category. Good for a chuckle but WOW! would I EVER need to work on sighting and cocking the hammers to give any of the better Gunfighter guys any worries.

One thing I found is that with both eyes open and two guns in front there's WAY too many sights to chose from. It didn't take more than a few seconds to work out that I was better off to hold one gun a couple of inches lower than the other so I could tell which sights went with which gun. I don't see many gunfighter category shooters doing that so maybe it gets better with more practice.

YEP. Being born southpaw and living in a right handed world I can shoot equally well with either had using any SA sixgun. BUT, my right hand tires more quickly than my left.
And I shoot rifles, shotguns, and pool cues right handed, eat right handed, throw a baseball left handed, bat either way, and write left handed.
And so it goes...

It can get even harder when ya try to cross draw them both at the same time, that I can tell ya. Now don't y'all be try'n that, cause blow'n a hole in one of your big toes ain't no fun...

I train with all the hands I was born with (and still have), being handy (and accurate) with lefty, righty, and two-handy.

Lately I've been reloading a copious amount of .44mag 240 gr fodder. I always make sure to roll 10 per fifty as "thumper" rounds just to keep my range visits interesting. I got in the habit a few years ago of finishing every range session left-handed for my last couple cylinders then the final 2 shots w/ dominate hand just to see how much better that one is....

Anyway to end my ramble, it seems the Ruger SBH 7.5" handles very well in "duelist" style with EITHER of my hands. Lots of fun... nice to know I can stop a threat if need be, when my dominate hand is injured. :)

I work my left (off side) hand with defense pistols. Those are Colt .45 autos (Government and Commander), a selection of S&W K frame revolvers in both .38 Special or .357 Magnum calibers and a couple of .40 S&W chambered H&K pistols.

Results vary. I'm probably best with my 'off' hand with the Smith revolvers.

I see no reason to try to develop my off hand for formal target work. (Other than as demanded in PPC shooting.)
