SKB vs Pelican Gun Cases

Pelican makes some great cases for all sorts of things. The biggest drawback is they have a great reputation and have a price that leverages that reputation to get a premium. Great for them, not so great for those of us who are budget conscious.
I don’t know anything about SKB cases so can’t comment on them.
Personally if you don’t mind paying what Pelican charges you should be happy with one of their cases. I’ve lugged tons of expensive equipment for work in their cases and never had an issue. Otherwise, do some homework and check reviews as there are other options. SKB May or may not be one.
I can tell you Plano is hit or miss. I’ve had tackleboxes by them that were great but didn’t like one of their pistol cases that I had and wound up breaking.

I have many SKB cases as well as Pelican and a whole lot of cheaper ones from Plano on down. I have to say the SKB cases are the best built and they are not inexpensive. The Pelicans are rugged as well (I always get the Storm series) and they are more expensive than the SKB.
That said, if you're not traveling with your cases and they're only going from your house to the range or hunting then you really don't need such over-built cases. For expensive competition setups the SKB or Pelican may be justified. I use Plano for competition but the cases are really only going in and out of the truck.
A trick I use to save money on my Pelicans is that I now get them without foam (which can save a lot of money) and I get rolls of 2" - 4" upholsterers foam which can be cut as needed. Doesn't look as nice but you can save 30% - 40% off the case total if you shop around.

I have the SKB for my Mission Sub-1 and its awesome.I also have a Pelican rifle length for 25 yrs and it just as good.Depends on who offers the best deal IMHO

It seems like a little thing but aside from price also look at the weight of them. Pelicans are heavy compared to other comparable cases, not a big deal in many uses but if you have to drag it a mile through an airport to the car that weight may matter. Also, they beat up other things due to their weight. Not always an issue but can be.
