does anyone use pelican cases the micro series to keep their gun? when i was looking for a pelican case for my digital camera, i saw a guy put his glock in a pelican micro case. seems it fits well, got a small flashlight in it too. i was wondering which model he's got, but i forgot.

Could try Pelican's website. There are plenty of on line sellers, so do a lot of surfing to get the price your comfortable with. they also make pretty good water resistant flashlights. They apear to be going into the compact 3V market cornered by Sure Fire and Streamlight.

Pelican cases are great. I have a large one for my bench rest and a small one (model 1200, I think) that holds a full size Glock, a couple of mags, and an Insight flashlight with spare batteries. The foam lets you create any configuration you want, there are holes so you can put your own lock on it, and you could probably run your car over the thing without breaking it.

Most of the "micro" series are two small to hold a average size gun and the micro series does not come with the plick and pluck foam that is so great for forming it to the contents. I recomend www.cases4less.com they have the best prices I have found and I have many many pelican cases (over 30) if you want an idea of the model numbers here is what I have in some of mine by model number.

1120 - Naa mini revolver, keltec 32, guardian, seecamp, guardian 380
1150 - Kahr MK9 P7M8 officers models glock 30, 36
1200 - almost any self defence size gun will fit in these full size 1911, full size glocks etc
1300 is a deeper model of the 1200 I think and since that isn't important when talking handguns I don't have any
1400 - longer barrel revolvers, 2 hanguns like a pair of gov't models, I also keep my ruger .22 with 5.5 in barrels in there both in one case.

This is one gun per case, not all of those guns in one case.

As a side note open cell foam is not the best for preventing rust but most of mine are also in Bianchi Blue bags as the represent compleated projects of guns I rarely use. You can put some moisture absorber in there and help take care of it. They are air tight.

The micro's are more suited for things like cell phones, first aid kits, gps etc when rafting

the case that comes with my HK seems okay but definitely not rugged as the pelican cases.

i'd like to be able to put the HK USP 45 and the Ruger KP95 in the same box, not sure which model that will fit both of these since they're quite large guns. probably something like the 1200 but slightly wider and longer, while depth is not really a problem.

something like this, but with two guns inside.

THe 1200 can hold 2 guns but to be on the safe side and to make sure they don't rub up against each other I would recomend the 1400. I also have some of mine in 1490's which are a breif case like version. One has 4 Kahr's in it for example. SKB makes some cases with more handgun friendly demensions for 2 guns but they don't have the pick and pluck foam.

I've been looking into this issue for awhile without deciding on anything. The one thing I did like, and which you gentlemen have dismissed, is a deep case.

If you need to put two guns, mags, ammo, lights, etc into the case, get a deep case and insert the guns/mags vertically instead of horizontally as pictured above. The pick and pluck foam makes it super easy to remove contoured slots to hold your weapon grip-up for easy withdrawal. Takes up a ton less room.

I have looked into storing them that way. When you purchase a case make sure that you take into acout the .75 inch top foam and the .5 inch bottom foam plus the lost depth around the edges. The only case that begins to make sence to store it that way with a kahr size handgun or bigger is the 1300. That is the first in the series that is deep enough. The 1200 wich is the same length width and length can hold to guns with room for at the most a couple of mags the 1300 might hold the 2 guns with a few more things. You need to have atleast an inch between the guns for the foam to pad and there is also about a half inch all the way around in non plick and pluck foam. It does make since in some of their large cases also like the 1600 which I store a rifle in. It could easily fit enough handguns though to get heavy. I hope this little bit of info will help some one pick the right case size.

i just order the Storm Case in olive drab color. this is the bigger size, that way i can put the pistols sideways instead of utilizing th depth of the case. even at 6 inches depth, it wont fit well with the HK. but this case should be good
here's what the olive drab color for this particular case

i decided on the Storm Case...

here's the case i got, it's a Storm Case model 2100. this case should be able to hold my Ruger KP95 and my HK 45.

I like my pelicans and I still use a large pelican that holds my 30-06 and AR15 simultaneously. I love the case bacause, like all pelicans, it is bomb-proof and water-tight. It is, however, overkill for most everything I do. It is heavier, harder to open, and more expensive than most types of gun cases. The other thing about pelican cases is that they have the very distinctive look of something expensive, and I worry about taking my eyes off it or leaving it in view in the truck. I love the case for hunting where it is going to be in danger of bouncing around a lot, but for in town use I find it to be overkill. For in town use, something with a built in combo lock is very convenient as well.

I used to use a small pelican for my 1911 and I now use it for a camera because I opted for a cheap (and cheap looking) combo lock type case for my pistol. It doesn't scream "I'm expensive! Steal me!" quite as much as my pelican case did. Probably not a big deal, but I find it to be more convenient.

I just ordered a Storm case model 2200! Those Storm cases are nicer than Pelicans, IMHO.

Anybody got Starlight cases? They're supposed to be the best.

hey Min, post the pics of your case :)
yeah i have the micro case from pelican, i think the pelican series have similar latch to open the case. the storm case handle is rubber and the latch is very nice to open.
here's the inside for those who wonders about the 2100 series of stormcase:

They just called me and said the Storm 2200 case I ordered was not available. They asked me if they could ship me the 2400 case at no extra charge instead. The 2400 case is 18" x 13" x 7" inside. Anyone know of a good take-down rifle I can fit in it? :D

I have a few pelican cases and they are great . However while they keep water out they also keep water in !! If you seal a wet gun in you're looking for rust problems. See that your gun has some rust preventitive on it and it wouldn't hurt to have some packets of silica gel in there.

does anyone know where to get the high density foam they use in these cases?

I would love to have several sets of foam cut like gudel for difference handguns and mags

not sure where you can get the solid one so you can cut it, the one that came with my stormcase has perforated 1 cm square, so you can pick it off. but try one of those shipping companies, they may have this since they do make custom packing. we have some boxes for laptop shipment that are tailored to specific equipments.
