Hello,

I mentioned earlier that I purchased an inexpensive Stoeger Condor in 20gauge for my brothers 14th birthday. I am curious about the relative decency of his scores. All where shot with the factory choke (the book does not say what type). His first round of skeet (with only very basic pointers) he shot a 16 out of 25, next round (same day) a 19. The last time I brought him to the range he got a 20 and 23. I didn't think very much of it until a kid came onto the range from the local highschool varsity team with his coach, and was exuberant about a score of 17.
Are these scores... quite good, or just average? He has only shot skeet on two occasions (each time shooting 2 rounds of skeet).

Thanks,

Chase

Very good for his amount of time spent, I would kill for a 23 most days, sometimes for a 20, congrats to your lil brother.

Pull the choke and see, he may be using a modified, possibly an improved cylinder, might try a skeet tube and he may get a straight next time out.

For a new person, those are great scores..............IF he wants to get seriously into competition, that is something else..........but for this he is doing great

Keep up the good work!

For anybody those are great scores. no reservations. If he's doing that with IC or MOD tubes he's a child prodigy.

That is a good start for a beginner.

For you information, National Skeet Shooting Association averages of classification for 20 gauge are:

20 GAUGE
Class Average (percentage)
AAA 98.25 and over
AA 97.00 to 98.24
A 94.50 to 96.99
B 91.00 to 94.49
C 85.50 to 90.99
D 85.49 and under

Most folks with few rounds shot start in Class C or D. It usually does not take long to rise to Class B. Classes A, AA and AAA are entirely different story.

Dont get too excited.

I shot 19 on my very first round of Skeet. With a Mossberg 500 fitted with IC choke.

A decade later sometimes I still do

OK , so in regards to your 14 year old brother, he is doing great, with the exception of trying a Skeet choke, I would resist at all costs, letting anyone talk you into changing anything else. Different anything will change the lead he has figured out so far. Encourage and support him, just like you've been doing, your both doing just fine.
