I recently took my sks and ak clone out to the farm to play with them. Sort of a shtf experiment as to which one would be better. Man you feel great with a big bag of mags for the ak clone. More capacity, little faster on the reload etc. Then I took all the mags and set them aside as if lost, broke, etc. The sks then shined as the better choice. The ak clone is weak without a magazine. Im sure this has been considered and discussed. Thanks.

Sks forever!

I picked up a new Yugo a while back at a great price, glad I did.
While I would like to grab an AK, I dont regret picking the SKS first, even though current gouging is making AK out of reach, at least until the panic is over.
SKS is a tremendous rifle, except for the crappy trigger pull.
I removed the bayonet, am leving the greande launcher in place as a muzzle brake, at least for now. I havent done any other modifying yet. Not sure what if any I will do.

i stand by ak, i believe it's a better weapon system. the sks uses an internal magazine (yes it is magazine fed too) and it can be taken apart to accept detachable magazines like a 20, 30 and 40 rounder. so in the end it's the same thing but overall you can't go wrong with either. i wouldn't say it's useless without a magazine. you can still load it singly.

Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

You also have to remember, these rifles were designed during the days the Garand and K98's did the fighting. Each one was also made with certain advantages in mind, such as the AK being made with a lot of pressed parts rather than milled. They're each very well thought of and put together, just the AK would be placed at the top due to its *reliability* with using higher capacity magazines. The SKS will function as well as the AK with the factory internal magazine.

This is one of the situations were one must pick personal favorites. Mine is the SKS. I love the rifles, their simplicity and reliability are well noted. AK's are very close, but I still don't have an AK to brag about versus my 2 SKS's.
