A few months ago I picked up a Russian SKS (Tula, 1954, rearsenalled, solid wood stock) for really cheap because it was missing the recoil lug. Didn't worry too much about it as I have a couple other SKS'.... until now I'm trying to get the thing together. Short of carving into the stock a bit to fit the action a little further forward it simply won't got together with the recoil lug installed. I took apart another SKS (Tula, 1954, laminated stock) just to make sure I was doing it right.
Short of carving into the stock are there any tricks to making this thing fit back together? I see AIM has a special of 5 SKS hardwood stocks for $10 right now and I'm thinking about ordering it up just to see if I get one that fits.
