SKS Scope Mounts

I can find all sorts of SKS scope mounts, but I also find loads of complaints about replacement receiver cover mounts not fitting some guns. I have a Yugo. Anyone have a line on replacement receiver cover mounts that are 1.) under $20, and 2.) fit without modification.

I admit, I'm cheap and I'm lazy.

Those receiver cover mounts are junk. Period. They won't hold a zero. Either get a mount that screws into drilled and tapped holes in the receiver or learn to shoot better with the iron sights.

I've had decent luck with my receiver cover scope mount, but I seem to be in the minority, as most people say they dont work for them.

I got the mount, 4x scope, and rings as a package from Cabelas for $55.

I have had a reciever scope mount on one of my norinco SKS' for ~15 years with no problems. I think it all boils down to tight hand fitting of the new reciever mount!

I've noticed that some of the receiver cover mounts have tension set screws on each side. Are they a bonus or a bother?

I'm not looking to make a 100 yd penny shooter out of this SKS. My eyes are pushing me toward scopes because I see ghosting of the sights after a dozen or so shots. A little sweat in my eyes render iron sights useless.

Face it fella, I just looking for an inexpensive old age band aid that will help keep shooting enjoyable. The next step is to do the budget trigger job on it. It's an odd trigger to get used to.

I put a $14 mount on my Yugo. Looks like the one in the photo posted by Grant48. - nice tight fit and holds zero fine.

Receiver cover scope mounts MUST be very tight. If you can get the cover on without doing some filing, it is too loose to be accurate. I fit mine to be very tight (can just barely get the cover retainer to engage).

The SKS was not designed to be a tack driver. Some may get a 4" group at 100 yards, and others may only group to paper plate size at that distance, even with a well mounted scope. That accuracy is good enough for combat, which is what the rifle was designed for.

I have the same scope and mount as Grant does. I haven't fired it yet to know if it holds a zero but if you file things down right during the install, it fits VERY tight. I kept it tight enough that I had to knock the retaining pin in with a mallet. Fairly sure it's not going anywhere.

I like the idea of drill and tap mount and being able to dissasemble the rifle without disturbing the scope or mount. But with my success with scopes and SKS I feel like I am just beating a dead dog.

The Choate Mount looks to me to function about the same as the receiver mounts with the four locking screws.

It seems the road to happiness with receiver cover mounts is being willing to make them fit tight. As I now understand it, the instructions even say as much.

I need to keep things cheap and simple.
