Until now I haven't considered the 7-shot 686s as an option because the only speed loader available was the HKS and I only use the push style Safariland loaders. Conceptually I think the 7-shots are great, but the lack of speed loaders has been holding me back. The kicker is that the 7-shot 686 is the only 3" model S&W has listed on their site (although it remains to be seen if my dealer can find one).

It looks like someone is importing these speed loaders which are push style. I haven't used them before, but I have pre-ordered three. I have no affiliation or experience with the seller.

"S.L. Variant" are exceptional speedloaders - they are "the better speedloader"... Light and robust design with the ability to change the cartridges angle by simply rotating the push button. I have dropped my "Variant" on a hard floor several times and it does not loose grip on cartridges. Be aware, that "S.L. Variant" are not made anymore - I believe that this is a limited time offer.

I had some and they were good loaders. I did have one that had trouble with the spring releasing one of the rounds. If Safariland made the comp II in 7 shot, I would prefer that over the SL Variant.
