First of all what are slaps and are they at all a good self defense weapon?

Thanks for the help, I'm clueless.

Yea that is what is known as a sap, blackjack...etc.

Read through the link I posted. Mr Rearic is the real deal and has the T-shirt to prove it.

His site will tell you all you want to know. Be aware these are restricted or downrite outlawed in many states. Often under other names.

Slapjacks, blackjacks, saps etc are extremely effective, if they werent illegal in most places. Similar to a kobuton, you will have to train and use it effectively, but it does pack a whollop. It take percise strikes. I wouldnt take it into a knife fight though. Better off with a stick lol

Also make sure that it is filled with a dense enough material. You want it heavy. Leadshot, powdered lead, tungsten etc.

Totally illegal.
That said, as a rookie cop in 1974 I was issued one. very effective, as was the the leaded billy club, and the sap gloves. all gone the way of the dino in our kinder gentler society.

Blackjacks and saps are NOT illegal in Arizona.
Check Copsplus web site for Boston Leather impact weapons.
D3 Protection web site also has saps and blackjacks.

slap you silly

There may be manufacturers who make a "sap" to fit into the palm of the hand and lie along the fingers, so that it is hidden from view until the person so armed "slaps" his assailant "along, upside the head."

And I think they are termed "slaps."

Just a variety of a sap.

I've also seen at least one manufacturer of a "sap hat", that resembles an ordinary baseball cap with small lead shot sewn into a pocket on the cloth rim of the hat, so you could just grab the bill of the cap and thwack an assailant in the face with it.
