Does anybody know if these slide fire stocks have been banned anywhere yet? I had a county deputy approach me on my land a couple of days ago after he had 4 people call saying they heard full auto fire. I live in the anti-gun state of Illinois(HELL) and I was just wondering if anyone has heard if these bump fire stocks have been banned anywhere yet.

From what I read, as long as it is not mechanically assisted in *any* way, it's fine. Wouldn't be surprised if the BATF banned it by name in the future though.

I agree with the post above. I would print off the letter from the BATF and carry it when I go to shoot. I was thinking about getting one of these but before I did I contacted my local indoor ranges if one could use these on their ranges. Out of 3 ranges 2 said yes and one said no.

Currently, the BATFE says it's legal and does not violate Federal laws.

However, it still needs to comply with state laws.

So, check your state laws to see if it's legal.

FYI...
It's not legal in CA due to it meeting the defintion of a "multiburst trigger activator" (state felony for possession).
So, don't bring one to CA.

CA Penal Code 16930
As used in this part, a "multiburst trigger activator" means either of the following:
(a) A device designed or redesigned to be attached to a semiautomatic firearm, which allows the firearm to discharge two or more shots in a burst by activating the device.
(b) A manual or power-driven trigger activating device constructed and designed so that when attached to a semiautomatic firearm it increases the rate of fire of that firearm.

Potential future action by the BATF will depend on how many of these things get into private hands. They can be bought with cash with no questions askes and are therefore untracable. Once the cat is out of the bag and enough of these things are sold it will be practically impossible to round up thousand of these things from gun owners who bought them legally. There might be some sort of amnisty period with free registration though I doubt it.

From a purely practical* point of view, what is the point of this device? I guess I don't really see the appeal of automatic fire, whether trhough a true select fire weapon, or from some add-on. Ammo prices aren't exactly going down. I guess it may be fun to shoot up some pumpkins or something once or twice, but dropping almost $400 on something that essentially just wastes ammo seems like a poor use of money to me. I carried a weapon with 3rd burst for a year, and never used that function once, even with free ammo and a lot of times I needed to shoot it. Semi is just more practical. My desire to use it would be even less if I was footing the bill for the rounds.

But to each his own I guess.

*I'm not talking about the issues regarding whether one does or should have the Right to own an automatic weapon. Just the practical purpose of actually shooting with it.

I'll just go ahead and bold/underline that so no one misses it.

The deputy thought it was cool and wanted to get one himself. I know they are a waste of ammo and money. I guess u need to be from illinois to understand why I bought one. If we can't even have concealed carry then I figured at least I could take full advantage of something similar to full auto. Were not allowed to have machine guns in this state, so this thing is like a slice of heaven.

Full auto fire from a rifle is not really practical anyway but for some of us that is not the point. The Declaration of Independence lists ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ as among the inalienable rights right along with Life and Liberty. If burning up ammo makes you happy it should be no one else’s business as long as you don’t harm or threaten others while doing so.

I had the sherriff approach me on private land as well, same reaction, thought it was cool, wanted to steal my AR from me, of course joking.. I blew it off right in front of him and he was like wow, that's bad ass. I live in Texas.

I am beganning to think that these things might be a good investment even if you don't own an AR. If they ever become restricted the price will only go up.

I wish I had invested in a Thompson guns back in the 1980's when they were cheap and I could have actually bought several a year. I could have stuck them in the safe and retired on what they would bring now. Hind sight is always 20/20.

The deputy actually wanted to see mine shoot also, so I bursted off 30 rds and he grinned ear to ear. I knew the deputy at the scene and my uncle is acually the sherriff in my county,so I wasn't worried.

I bought mine 3 weeks ago. Paid $364 for a piece of plastic and I haven't had this much fun since I fed my little brother to the pigs. Full auto or 3 rnd. burst are very controllable because you have a firm grip on the forestock and you are pushing ahead. The forward push is what activates it. A mag is used up in 2.4 seconds but I have went thru maybe 300 rounds and now I know what it is like. The selector knob on the stock allows you to shoot semi and I really think I will buy 10 more and resell them. If you can't afford it don't buy one but if you can, I give these things a 10. And I don't work for Slidefire. I am an Idaho redneck living on a deadend road increasing my beans and red wheat supply.

Says who?
You should research the Akins Accelerator.

The guy even submitted one to the ATF to give an opinion prior to selling them. The ATF declared it was entirely legal and unrestricted.
The guy set up a business to manufacture and sell them, investing who knows how much money.
He went into full production. Some were sold around the country.
The ATF later declared they were in fact illegal machineguns.
They not only shut him down, but now all of those that had been sold were illegal machineguns.
Customers that were known to have purchased one were contacted, and informed they were in illegal possession of an unregistered machinegun.

You couldn't own one anymore, they were not grandfathered, they were illegal. Since you cannot register a new machinegun you couldn't register them either, they were banned.

So they went from being worth what they were sold for, to being worth nothing because they are illegal and cannot be sold.
If you had bought many of them, you would just be out that much more money.

If a company is told the product they are based around just became worthless, they won' be able to refund the purchase price to every customer either, because operating costs will have used up a good percentage of that money already, and they will likely owe loans to the bank that are not paid as well.
No, they will most likely file bankruptcy, not have to refund anything, and cease to exist.
Poof the customers' money is gone, and the product they bought is illegal to own.

So if you want one to use, buy it. If you want several in case they get outlawed, think again.

"Some people are nothing short of horrified by the thought common people might have fun without their permission or supervision."

They must be the same people who banned one of my favorite things as a youngster - firecrackers and M80s. And bottle rockets, etc. There were stands on the side of the road and anybody with money could buy them.

These customers were "known" because not many of these things were sold at about $1,000 each and they were all sold all by mail order. A sporting goods store in my town has several Slidefire stocks on display right now and anyone can come in and plunk down $400and walk out no questions asked. I think that the horse is already out of the barn on this one. The more of these get into private hands the less likely that the BATF will reverse itself because of all the potential bad publicity of confiscating them, especially with a presidential election comming up.

I don't know if the BATFEIEIO has ever attempted to generate good publicity in any situation for any reason.
It would be an interesting lawsuit if they DID reverse their opinion, I have no use for the device, but will be making popcorn for the court-room spectating if they decide to ban a product well distributed into the country.

I'd like to have one, just to play with it a few times then take it off and put it away. I wouldn't want to burn ammo at a high rate every time I take my AR out to play. But I think the "WHEEEE" factor would be high with those. Sure looks like fun!

True select fire is accurate in short bursts. This device is just a bump fire aid. You just burn through ammo by using forward pressure on the stock. True automatic fire is effective and accurate in skilled hands.
