Slide locks back with full magazine

I was curious if anyone can help me have an idea before I go to the smith:

I have a Springfield 1911 Compact and the slide locks back on every other round or so - like the magazine is empty....

I have to go the range and test all my mags - I have 5, and not sure if all of them do it or not. Could this be happening due to a weak mag spring - or should I be looking at something else?

I have been told that the slide release sticks to far inside the frame and it's pushing the rounds down - but I don't think this is the problem - or could it?

When it locks to the rear, I hit the slide relase and it chambers just fine - just the next round or so would do it again. It wasn't constant - it wouldn't do it on every round.

Should I change the mags - I use the McCormick ones and never had a probelm with this brand before in other mags - just bought these when I replaced the sights and added the extended slide release....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It could also be that your thumb of finger is bumping the slide release lever up into the lock position during recoil.

I have the same problem with some guns, and it's my nonfiring hand bumping the lever down, keeping it from locking back on the last round.

This happens most often with hardball or jacketed ammo. As a bullet rises in the magazine, a bullet ogive scrapes the inside of the slide lock and elevates it to a locked position. Your 'smith can correct the problem with a file and stone. Just make certain after modification that the slide still locks back on an empty magazine.

I'll add that it seems you were not having this problem until you changed magazines and "added the extended slide release."
It might be the magazines, but I would suspect the new slide release is the culprit either by your thumb pushing it up accidentally or by cartridges in the magazine pushing it up.

I'm with #4 in suspecting the new slide release. Could be that the inside of it is hit by incoming rounds pushing it up. Also, I have heard that on 'energetic recoil guns' as the 45 compact might be that extended slide release levers MAY have enough mass in the long handle that they can 'bounce' up from the recoil/recoil recovery stroke. Try the original if you still have it and see if that cures the problem. Also you might inspect the inner part of the slide release lever after firing several rounds to see if the 'soot' is rubbed off by upcoming rounds. Good luck findiing the problem.

I plan on trying to go to night or it might be tomorrow - but I have other mags and will try them and the old slide release - I have it somewhere.....

If it turns out it needs to go to the smith to fix the slide release, no problem, it's one of the older Springfields and I need to have an extended beavertail install - the factory one digs into my hand.
