Loading 380, 95 gr. plated . The powder band on this is very narrow , 2.9 starting, 3.2 max. Started at the low end and worked the load up to 3.1 grs. of HP38 . For some reason the slide is not staying open on the last round. Same problem loading 230 gr. lead in 45 acp. Using 4.7 grs. of bullseye. Will not rack and hold the slide open on the last round . I might could increase the charge on the 45 but had rather not go to max on the 380.

Have you positively eliminated, without a doubt, the possibility of your thumb riding the slide release? It will only be of consequence, that is, noticeable, on the last round. Don't ask me why I always think if that first.

Probably has nothing to do with the load.

Most last round hold open failures are due to the mag follower not engaging the slide. This can be due to either:
1. Crud in the mag especially around the feed lips and follower.

2. Weak mag spring, and possibly crud.

Disassemble the mags and clean well. Use NO lube.

If that doesn't help, try replacing the spring. See:

The LCP and some other .380s DON'T lock open after firing the last round. Is yours in fact supposed to?

I was having the same problem and discovered the problem was that my thumb was riding the slide release button. Not sure what kind of gun you have but this is a common problem for people with some Sigs because of where the slide release button is located.
