Hey all,

I shot traditional double actions and 1911s for years using a high thumbs grip. Now I'm trying to get used to one of them thar new fandangoed pistols with the slide release foolishly place under the right thumb. How can I keep my thumb from making the slide drop after the last round?

I sold my XD9 to get around this problem, but my new Ruger SP9 is almost as bad. I'm considering a Sig P239, but again, same problem. Maybe I should just buy a Beretta 92FS and be done with it.

Locking my thumb DOWN feels uncomfortable. What do YOU do with your right hand thumb? (And let's keep that question firearms related--please!) :)

I have this problem on my PX4 as i've adopted a high thumbs grip as well for shooting my 1911. I can't help it, any pistol I pick up I go high thumbs, and if they put the slide catch there, then that's where my thumb goes.

On my px4 i've tried my hardest to rest my strong hand thumb on top of the other thumb, rather than looking for something hard on the pistol to rest it on, but regrettably I still end up touching the slide catch.

Keep your right thumb on top of the safety with the left thumb over the right one. That's how we train.

Additionally if possible, replace the extended slide release with a regular one.
