Slide releases on my two Glocks.

I have two Glocks. A G19c, and a G30. The slide release on the G19c is MUCH easier to use. It isn't as close to the slide as the one on the G30.

To close the slide on the G30, I have to pull the slide back slightly and let it go (while holding the slide release down). With the G19c, I just drop the slide release, and the slide shuts with no other effort.

Do all G30 slide releases sit closer to the frame than the midsize models? Why is the G19c easier to use? Yes, the G19c is stock.

The slide of the G30 is wider, and extends over the frame a bit more than that of your G19C, thus there is less "real estate" on which you can place your thumb. Pulling back the slide to release it is a better practice anyway. Loading the pistol requires this action anyway, and if you use the same action for other purposes, such as for reloading, you have made things simpler, and less prone to failure or error.

Not familiar with Glock manual at arms.

Is it a slide stop ?
Or a slide release ?

If the former, should NOT use it to release the slide.

pg 21 of my Glock manual covers this----it is a slide release.


at any rate---Glock parts are so cheap and easy to replace that it doesn't really matter.

You aren't supposed to use that part to release the slide. The Glock slide is supposed to be pulled to the rear with the off-hand to let the slide go forward. If you want to use that part the way you do on a Colt, you can purchase an "extended" slide release.

I agree it is better to pull the slide back and let it go
to chamber the first round. However, to use the slide
stop to release the G30 slide, it can be a little easier if
you press the release/stop in a little as well as down.

The extended release/stop used on the G34 and G35
may also fit a G30. Check with Glockmeister. They also

The correct part name is slide stop lever. Rich357 is right, the correct way to release the slide on a Glock is to pull the slide back and let go!! The slide stop lever is for locking the slide back manually for cleaning, presenting the weapon to another person to show an empty chamber, and such. It is not for releasing the slide to chamber a round. I wore out the slide stop spring on my G36 by installing the so-called extended slide stop leaver. At least, that's what I'm assuming I did!! Which caused a myriad of problems!!

Ok direct quote from a Glock owners manual---FORM US005(REV. 2/96) page 21.

"Remove the empty magazine from the weapon by pushing the magazine catch(19). Insert a new magazine and then either push the slide stop lever (27) downward (see photo 2), or pull the slide slightly backward and allow it to spring forward."
