So I was cleaning my gun (Sigma SW9VE) today and decided to run some snap caps through it. I loaded the mag with them and insterted the mag and racked the slide, but it didn't go into battery (not sure if that's the proper term), basically the slide didn't go all the way forward (see picture). I released the mag, pulled and locked back the slide, and cleared the snap cap.

At first I thought this might be a one time thing, so then I tested this a few more times with the same result. At this point I was thinking it was the snap caps so I loaded a mag with 5 rounds and attempted to cycle through them and the same thing happened. I carefully cleared the round. Loaded the snap caps in the other mag to see if it was a mag issue, the same thing happened.

I kept mucking around with it and got it to normal loaded position (with snap caps) and what I noticed was if I racked the slide and let go, it would be fine, but if I pulled it back and kept my hand on the slide and let it go back (let the slide rack slower), it would do this funny thing. I have not had an issue like this before. I am guessing the general consensus is going to be to call S&W but maybe someone else has another suggestion.

If you slingshot it, or just drop the slide by the release it goes into battery right? If thats the case, this doesnt sound odd at all, riding the slide causes all kinds of jams and failures to return to battery. Just quit riding the slide.

I knew there would be a term for it! You are correct lj, when I slingshot it is fine, but if I ride the slide it will cause the issue in the picture.
