Thinking of getting a leather sling for my M1. What are your thoughts on the Turner Saddlery models available through the CMP? I assume the tan leather model is closest to WWII issue leather? Is 50" or 54" appropriate?

I see they have the CMP logo, and though I'm no re-enactor, and I like the CMP, I don't have a burning desire to carry their logo. Are there any other sources out there you'd care to recommend that wouldn't have the logo.

One last related question... I don't see either clips or the combi-tool available through CMP. Any recommended sources? Any to avoid?

Thank you

You can buy non-logo, high-grade slings from Brownell's.
I "think" these are actually made by Turner.
Tan sling-- 084-270-110 $48.20.

They also sell the Uncle Mike's Military sling.
1 1/4"-- 593-261-140 $25.00

Sources of clips and the M3-A1 Combination tool:
Fulton Armory-- http://www.fulton-armory.com/

Amherst Depot-- http://www.amherst-depot.com/gunparts.htm

Gun Parts Corporation-- http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=2070zM1 GARAND

And many others.

On word of advice....start hitting the gun shows and check out the parts sellers for replacement brushes for the combination tool.
Often the tool's brush is worn out, or has been ruined by wrapping a patch around it to clean the chamber.

Buy a couple of spares.

The longer one is for the AR, but either will work fine. The M1907 Military Reproduction sling is the one you want. They also make their Highpower Comp Sling, made from 11oz leather, and built for heavy duty match use.

I bought one of the Biothane AWS M1907 slings from Turner Saddlery for my M1. Not a leather one like you asked, (I wanted an OD sling) but a nice sling. Works good.

An old canvas sling came in the box with my CMP HRA Greek Service Grade. I like it a lot better than the leather sling I have on my other Garand.

I bought one of Turner's slings for my ar (a NM model). It is a really nice piece of work. When you lock the keeper down on your bicep it stays!! :)

Have a good one,
Dave

I prefer the GI cotton web sling. I never could figure out how to use the leather sling. I've seen the instructions, and it always looked like more trouble than it's worth to me.
