Want to put a sling on my rossi 45 colt lever action. Was looking at an uncle mikes full band set up,the unit that goes over the ammo tube is for tubes from, .645 to. 660 dia tubes. Will this fit on the rossi 45 tube?

I know it is frustrating when your thread gets no replies. I suspect there have been 100 people like me who were intrigued by your thread title but know nothing about the tube diameter on a Rossi .45lc lever gun. If Rossi lever gun were in the thread title, I would not have read the post because I can't help.

I was thinking that the Uncle Mike's package should state which rifles it would fit. But I, too, have no idea what the measured diameter of a .45 LC Rossi tube is. Mine is a Winchester 94.

Pose the question to the local gun store, and see what they advise.

If you have access to a pair of dial calipers or better yet digital calipers, it should be easy to measure the OD of the magazine tube. I agree it would be helpful if they listed what various rifle tube OD's were, but it's possible that the OD varies by year of manufacture. Good luck!

I personally am not a fan of tube mounted slings. The tube was not intended to carry the weight of the rifle or the stress when slung up in position. I would add a stud to the front of the forearm. Just my $.02.

A stud in the front of the fore arm is a much worse place than the magazine tube to mount a sling. There wouldnt be much real difference in the stress to the gun, other than the thin wood at the front of the fore end has little meat to support a sling stud. I'd expect it to tear out or split the fore end wood.

The magazine tube mounts work fine. I'm not a fan of them either, but its for traditional esthetics more than anything.

I have no idea what the diameter of the Rossi tubes are though. Cant help in that regard.

Have a gun smith tap a swivel through the barrel band. JUST like they did on the Rio Grande rifle.

Will the barrel band from the .410 model fit your 45 colt? Worth a call to Rossi.

I used to do that on my lever guns, but the two threads holding the stud in didnt give me much confidence. I ended up inletting a knurled nut in the wood under the band. Much more thread depth.

That may well be. I've done several Winchester 94's, they end up with about two threads max after making a small flat for the stud to bear against. When starting to add a stud to a Browning 92 with its aluminum band, I decided to inlet the common knurled nut for sling studs into the wood below the band. It was much better, so I converted my other guns to the same type.

Can't help with the measurements but the two options I would take are :

1. Buy the set, take it home and see if it works, if i does cool, if not return it.

2. Go to your LGS, (provided they sell the mounts and same rifle) pick the mounts off the rack, take to gun counter and ask if you can check the fit in the store.

Option 2 is what I did with my Rossi .44. I no longer have the package, do not remember the maker or model # on the mount I have though. I seem to remember most of them being pretty generic in sizing, either .22 size, shotgun or rifle. Most are split rings that mount on either side of mag tube being held together by a screw/stud. This allows for some play in sizing using washers ect.

You can get a set of inexpensive digital calipers from Harbor Freight for ten bucks.
Measure twice, cut once.
Don't always trust the internetz to give you the correct answer...

Thanks for the replys but have decided not to use the type that attaches to the mag tube.I dont trust putting the pressure on the tube, too many bad stories about it.Will try some type that just slips on the bbl and stock.

I have had mag tube slings on three Winchesters for going on 40 years.

There is no problem.
