You guys out there were quite helpful in the past when I was deciding which carry knife to buy. Bought a wicked good Benchmade and have my eye on others. So here's my new dilemma....sling shots. I've read reviews until my eyes water and still haven't made much headway. I'll describe what I want and hopefully you can point me in the right direction. My plan is to carry it in the field whenever I'm outdoors...fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, etc. I want something that will kill small game and pests; rabbits, squirrels, crows, pigeons, rats, etc. And I want one with reliable bands and pouches. I've read many reviews that say bands broke after only a few shots or even on the first shot; reviews that say bands are hard to replace. Which bands are better, tubular or flat? Which lasts longer? Pouches? I'm betting that, like my firearms, I'll eventually buy different ones. I would like to get started with a few good ones, then learn on my own which works best for me. I'll appreciate any help so please share your experience and thoughts. Thank you. Tom

Google Slingshots of the world for an overall look. I have been building and given away slingshots for twenty years now and have never found a best. Right now I use a modified Hwrak dragon, laminated hardwood, surgical tubing, a Mexican or matchstick attachment, and tekite pellets for ammo out doors. Willy Wonka everlasting gobstoppers are also decent ammo.

Ive been contemplating a heavy banded slingshot for a while. Some of those will fire 3/8 or larger Ballbearings with surprising authority.

Ive got a ordinary daisy wristrocket, that works fine for most small stuff. I buy cheap marbles at the dollar store for ammo, they are usually a buck for 50-100. Craft marbles work really well also.

Band wise there are a few that are decent for standard slingshots. The trumarks are nice, but ive had good results with standard daisy bands too. My draw length is a little beyond what they are made for so if im shooting my slingshot alot i have to replace the bands every week or two.

Jorg used to be a member IIRC and he builds some silly stuff. His earlier stuff has some good sling shot info.

Band breakage is a fact of life. It will eventually happen. Wear safety glasses.

I like to occasionally stop at the Dollar store for a bag of glass marbles.

Bands aren't a big deal.

I used to make wrist rockets out of coat hangers...the ones made from 1/4" diameter aluminum. Ticked Mom off to no end because those were her good hangers she used to buy from the J.C.s. At a buck apiece in the 70s, no wonder she was upset!

Anyway, I used surgical rubber tubing, which you can buy at Lowes or other hardware stores in any length you want, dirt cheap. Buy several feet and make yourself several sets of replacements, if you feel the need.

As an alternative, consider making yourself a sling instead of a slingshot. Takes more practice, though.
