What type of slings are you using for your tactial shotguns? I am almost near completion of my 870 project and would like to know what sling you guys use and why. Single Point, 3 Point, Giles, Swift......lets hear it!

Thanks a bunch!

I see no need for a three point sling,i use wilsons regular rifle sling on my defense shotty.Simple, effective, and inexpensive.

Standard GI sling. However, a Wilderness Single Point Sling would be excellent for an 870.

I have a Tactical Tailor QR sling with a Specter (CQB Solutions) side mount plate on my 500. Don't remember what made me pick the TT over, say the CQB, probably the slightly wider webbing, but I think you'd be well off with either.

Wilderness Single Point Sling on all shotguns and AR15s.
Why ?
Well, it was recommended to me by someone who I consider an authority on AR15s. I used them on AR15s for a year or two and when I decided I wanted a sling on my shotguns I decided that it would only make sense to get the same sling.
I have used these slings in a total of six, five day classes and am plenty satisfied with them. I do see some drawbacks though depending on what you are going to do with the gun. If you simply want a tactical sling, then the Wilderness Single Point Sling would be my choice. If you were going to be hunting with the shotgun, or using it in anyway that you didn't always want the shotgun ready for instant use, then the single point sling becomes a PITA. An example might be trying to drag a deer out of the woods. Here having a conventional sling makes sense.
Like a lot of gun owners, I occasionally let myself slip into the fantasy world of SHTF/TEOTHAWKI. It occured to me that there might be times you might want to attach the carbine or shotgun to your backpack frame or something. This would be a lot easier with a conventional sling. However, there is nothing stopping you from having sling swivels on the gun and simply using a conventional sling if you needed one.
In gun skool, there is nothing that even comes close to the single point sling IMO. Not having a tactical sling in skool is a major strain on your back and arms. Same goes for anytime you would want to walk around with your gun ready for instant use.

FYI you should never put a sling on a tactical shotgun( it makes to much noise) just a little tip i picked up from the boys over at EODMU11.

Don't know what kind of slings they are using but mine doesn't make any noise at all. Plus, what are you supposed to do with the shotgun when you have to drop it and transition to your pistol??? I know, use the old HK retention method right? Not me, I prefer a sling, thank you.

I presently have an Eagle Industries 3pt sling on my Benelli M121 M1. Soon to be upgraded to a singlepoint.

WEPS, I don't think the boys over at EODMU11 know anything about shotguns, CQB or Infantry operations if they are sayng things like that.

if you have to drop your shotgun to make a transition to another weapon it's probley because it is empty and you won't have time to reload it so you let it hit the deck. you can come back for it later if you're still alive. you're probley not going into a situation where you're facing a heavily armed group anyway(most likely just clearing your house) so i would sacrifice the sling to be more quite. besides, unless you're trained and you practice often you'll just end up tangling yourself up and getting killed.

if you need to make a transition it is because your gauge is empty. you won't have time to reload it so you drop it and come back for it later if your still alive. unless your trained and practice with a sling regularly it is likely you'll just end up tangling yourself up and possibly getting killed. i don't need any tactical sling to clear my house and anybody who says they do is likely a tactical poser.

WEPS,
I'd hardly call Louis Awerbuck and Pat Rogers tactical posers, nor would I think that the police tactical units and military units I have served in or trained with are tactical posers either. The sling on your long gun is as necessary as a holster for your pistol.

As for running your gauge empty, I was always taught to load as you shoot. You may have a malfunction or you may need to sling it so that you can search a more confined area with your handgun. It's definately not a good idea to discard a weapon while you're going through a building. Someone may pick it up and use it against you. I'm sure my chief would have a fit if officers just discarded their gauges.

I certainly hope you don't really intend to clear your house by yourself. Pretty dangerous stuff....

another vote for the wilderness single point sling for civilian use. if you are like me and only use your shotgun for 3gun matches, tactical shotgun classes, and home defense, a sling point sling is most useful. they let the gun hang when not in use, but are not overly complex as to bind things up. plus they are easy to take off when i go trap/skeet/sporting clay shooting.

I use a plain carrying strap, a GI web sling on 1 1/4" detachable swivels. The sling stays off while the shotgun is in indoor mode and gets mounted for hunting or whenever the gun goes out the door. Indoors I won't have a sidearm to transition to, and slings are apt to hang up and cause problems in tight quarters. Outdoors it's far too handy as a carrying strap to leave at home. The front swivel stud is always mounted with an eye to avoiding the sling jamming the forearm when running the slide.

Put me firmly in the camp of: No Sling

I see little use for a sling in my use. Should I find myself using a gauge for defense, odds are I might not even have my pistol with me. If I do - teh shotgun will hit the deck because it will be empty/jammmed/broke.

Slings get hung on things. They intefere with the drawing of your handgun.
The grab things and pull them to the floor making noise to alert your opponent. They hang on door knobs to stop your progression.

If I was on a entry team and knew in advance I might be facing many BG in various locations and might need to transition back and forth and have covering fire to allow time to reload the shotty, I might rethink it.

I won't, so I don't.

Slings only snag on stuff if you're unused to having one on the gun.

I have a standard carry sling on my 12 at the moment and it doesn't get hung up, because every rifle and shotgun I've ever had has had a sling. Having run through the forests of Fort Knox with an M16 without getting snagged overmuch, moving down a wideopen hallway or across a room with a shotgun and sling is no biggie.

Normally the sling is for outdoor use (backup gun for pig hunting a couple times).

Mr White

obviously if you are a law enforcement officer or you are a part of a tactical unit or you participate in shooting matches you will need a tactical sling. do you need one to go hunting though? you said you shouldn't clear your house by yourself, so please tell me why people need one other than the fact that it looks cool. that's like the guy who mounts a sure fure light ,red dot sight and a crimson trace laser on his M1A, pointless it just looks cool. im not saying i don't own slings because i in fact own many, none of them are tactical though and none of them are on my 12G.

I see I'm not the only one having double/triple post problems today.....sorry about that. Keeps resending my post... AAAAAHHHHHHH!
