Ok, I'm convinced. Slix Shot nipples really, really work. I use pretty stiff loads of 40 grains of Triple 7, RWS caps and BigLube bullets...all of which I also really like.
I used to have commodious amounts of cap trash problems gumming up the works. After each shot I twisted the gun to the right, cocked the hammer, rotated the cylinder and hoped the chunks would fall out. It seemed that almost every cylinder would end up with pieces of the cap falling in to the works, jamming the cylinder. It's worse with the hotter loads I use.
Since I switched to Slix Shot nipples, that is all a distant memory. Friday I fired 10 cylinders, with no cleaning or brushing of any kind and more importantly, no jams. With one loan exception, every cylinder fired and rotated perfectly. The exception was one of the last cylinders fired and it was a cap that didn't fully seat and misfired. No doubt due to crud build up on the nipples.
One additional variable may be helping. I have one of the latest Classicballistx cylinders...also a super nice product. It seems to be a bit closer to the recoil shield and may not allow the cap trash to fly behind it. Either way, I'm just thrilled at the accuracy, power and reliability of my ROA.
I'm thinking about a new bullet (thanks rodwha!) from Tom at Accurate mold. It would be a sort of variation on the 180S and then sent to Erik at Hollow Point Mold Service to have one of his HP inset-bar conversions done.
I shoot my ROA almost exclusively now. In the last few weeks I've put hundreds of rounds through it and have settled on a recipe that performs really well.
