Can You Please tell me if the Slix-Shot Black Powder Nipples
Solves the Problem with Cap Jams on the Uberti Colt 1862 Police
and what would be the Difference with Treso nipples
i hear the Slix Shots may not Fit?

Or do i still need to fill in the Notch of the Hammer

Thank You

I would recommend filling the safety notch regardless of whatever nipple I used.
Thank You for the Reply

Well So in other words You are saying this Fix will stop the Hammer from Grabbing onto #10 Remington caps that i use?

i Saw Mike The Duelist1954 and his Fix on YouTube on one of his revolvers.

i hear some people say it worked 80% of the time? how can that be unless the cap crumbled and fell into the action.

One person claims that with #11 caps they dont have that problem but i doubt it.
and i stay with # 10

i Saw someone do another fix.they drilled a Hold and placed a pin and that pin prevented the cap from falling into the action by pushing it to the side?

i know this may sound crazy but would JB weld be able to hold a small pin to do that same job as i am not exactly sure about drilling and probably do not have the Bits to handle Steel anyways.

So this only happens on colts and not The Remington, that is so unfortunate
Thanks again

The safety notch was there for "safety". I often conceal carry an open top Colt with all chambers loaded and the hammer on the safety pin.
I also have a "cap rake" on them, no cap jams!
If all you do is shoot at a public range with your "5-shooter" guess you could fill in the safety.

Short of making it a four shooter with the JB Weld, the pin is your only answer that I can come up with. But that filled up hammer face works great, closer to 100% of the time, on my 1860 Army but that's a six shooter.

But if you can't do it yourself or you don't want to do it yourself, send it to somebody.

Check out this thread; :)

Sounds Interesting and when you said cap Rake is that the pin i was talking about?
is it possible to put one in without drilling?

Thanks

i do love how that looks that is a very interesting concept.
i do not mind doing it myself but i not sure what Type of Bit and size i would need for this Type of Steel
i read about 1/64th of an inch from the edge to drill a hole but they not mention the size of the pin or hole.

Cap Rake

i decided for now to just fill in the notch with JbWeld
i guess i will leave it for 24 hours to dry

i can always buy another hammer if i decide to take that other route
and do the Cap Rake which is simply amazing.

Thank You all for your help

:)

Filling in the notch with JB is so simple, cheap and effective (90%). That is all I have done on my Colt style revolvers. If it falls out I replace it. It helps to give it a little bit of concavity so the JB doesn't contact the nipple and get chipped or forced back. All you really need to do is eliminate the sharp edges that catch the spent cap. I have guns that had the safety notch and no pins on the back of the cylinder for it to engage. The older Pietta's notches were notoriously wide. You could rough up the deeper part of the notch to get better adhesion of the JB.

Every few years the cap rake and the Manhattan conversions come around again.
Install TRESOs or Slix, do the Pettifogger improvements, fill the safety notch, use #10 Remingtons and the vast majority of cap gun problems are solved.
An additional note: Over charging the chambers can make all of the improvements useless. Stick with 28 grs or less in the 44 cal guns for peak performance.

Thanks

i make it a Rule never to overcharge mine.

Slix Shot wont Fit on an Uberti 1862 Police But Treso does according to what i hear.

The Safety Notch filled in Works fine, Though i never experienced a cap Jam like people mention maybe because i pinched the Cap.But i really want to make sure i dont have these problems as i am not in Favor of pinching caps.

i always Use # 10 Remington Caps and never CCI not that i tried CCI but i just dont hear good things about them.

The only time i use # 11 is for my NAA Super Companion. which takes # 11

Thank You for your advices everyone
