Slix shot

One of the most annoying things about OEM cones is their (sometimes)lack of consistency in length. I've had brand new guns not fire on one particular cone until I backed it out slightly, then it would fire fine. This is one problem you WON'T find with the Slix. They are very consistent in size and quality. If you plan to use your pistol on a regular basis, the Slix are well worth yhe money.

Are Slix shot nipples worth getting????? It looks like they go for about $6 each.

Are you having any troubles now?
I hear a lot of folks swear by replacing the nipples in all their revolvers, but I have not been compelled to do so. I have a few sets of after market, boutique nipples and they are excellent. However, that is not to say there was anything wrong with the majority of the factory ones I've used that couldn't be fixed with a little bit of fitting. I just consider making a few adjustments to my C&B revolvers something I expect to do. I think many folks consider that part of the fun, just like guys who work on old cars.

I have Slix shot nipples in an Uberti Navy, stainless steel nipples from Track Of The Wolf on an elderly ASM Dragoon and Tresos on two pocket models. I have left the factory nipples on a Remmy and two navies, all Pietta. I smoothed the hammer faces and safety notches of the hammers on all the Colts navies and the dragoon as per Duelist1954's video, No cap jams on any of the full size revolvers but the two pocket models suck caps no matter what I try. I will probably install a cap rake in both.

Slix shots do work great as do the TOW stainless. Both are good products. I noted that the caps fired with the TOW stainless did not fragment when loading 40 grains 2F and a RB using Reminton #10 Caps in the dragoon. That said I would not spend money unless you are having cap jams. If you are getting jams, I would try smoothing/deburring the hammer face and then trying different sizes of Caps before spending the money on new nipples.

I'm just looking to make my ROA more reliable. Still experimenting with different caps on my newest one.

I will try those things.

I don't know about Ruger's nipples but the Uberti nipples I've got on their guns that span a few decades are all far too tapered. So they don't fit any cap all that well. I switched a couple of the guns over to Slix Shot and they take CCI #10's quite well and Remington #10's nigh on perfectly. A HUGE improvement over the stock Uberti nipples.

The catch is that since they take the generally smaller sizes the best I'm left with what to do if all I can find is CCI #11's. So my plan is to get a couple of sets of Treso's, which are noted as fitting CCI #11's perfectly, and have a set of small and large nipple guns. These will go onto my Uberti Remington NMA's. So with the SS on the Colt open tops and Treso's on the NMA's I'm all set to shoot whatever I can find for caps. How's that for a plan?
