Slug Velocity Question

I am wondering if anyone knows what the velocity is of the Remington Slugger shells I am using. They are 20 gauge hollow point rifled slugs. I looked all over the box but I couldn't find the advertised velocity. I was also wondering what the maximum range would be on these to ethically kill a deer, providing I wait for a broadside shot and hit it well in the vitals. Thanks!

If I recall correctly about 1560fps. As to range Foster style slugs are best at 70yds and under. Beyond that they will kill but have lost a lot of velocity.

I shot a 20 gauge slugger and whacked a doe at just under 100. No issue. Farther than that would be asking for a wounded deer.

Question about 20g vs 12g. How do they compare as a slug gun? Other than the size and weight of the slug, is the 20g an effective SD weapon in the bush? Looking for a shotgun that my wife can handle more comfortably.

I have my wife set up with a 20 youth model (she is a little thing). She loves the weight and the feel of it. As she is more comfortable with it...so am I. It would be plenty effective in a pinch.

Think I read someplace that a slug out of a 410 has as much stopping power and does as much damage as a .357? Does not mean I am correct but seems I was told that a long time ago.

Have known several women that prefer the 410 shotgun For home defense ( no recoil to speak of ) and I personally believe most things that go boom will suffice. The lady that killed the Grizzly Bear with the .22 is ( got him to hold his head steady enough for an ear shot as he was breaking down her door!!) a text book example of shot placement.

Again I would think most who do a home invasion are not looking for armed resistance unless they already know you have something they really do want.

Cartel members with bullet proof vest and heavy caliber weapons go after your home then you as a home owner will probably not come out on top unless you have time to get yourself and loved ones in a prepared defensible position. Closets and bath tubs ain't gonna cut it in that situation.

Just thoughts and considerations right or wrong.

1560 FPS out of a 12g is brutal. 20g, maybe. I shot 5 magnum slugs this weekend and have the bruise to prove it. what i learned is to run the slugs last.
