Several questions about SG & slugs for hog hunting. I'm planning to use my 12 gauge Winchester 1300 smooth bore with a modified choke.

1. Will this SG handel slugs W/O damaging the choke?

2. Which SLUG is best for hogs? There are quite a few out there. I know the FOSTER RIFLED are OUT since they're designed for rifled barrels. But the others have me CORNfused! Suggestions, recomendations PLEASE!!!

A premature THANKS!

1) Yes, the choke will be fine. A looser choke may be more accurate, but it may not be. Only one way to tell.

2) No, fosters are for smooth bores, sabots are for rifled bores. Basically, you can shoot anything in a smooth bore without hurting it (as long as all the other stuff jives too, like chambering of the gun). ETA: but sabots will suck, and be a waste of money.

I'd go with whatever is most accurate in your gun - but I haven't hunted hogs, so maybe some slugs have a reputation for not penetrating enough. I doubt that is the case, but like I said, I don't know.

This thread, this thread, this one too, and this one , and this one, especially this one, especially this one too may help you. And if those aren't enough for you, you could search too. :D
