Going to be swapping some parts on my Kimber Custom II .. I'll be replacing the Slide Release, Thumb Safety and Mag Release and will also be adding a magwell ..

Originally I was considering getting all Wilson Combat parts .. but I am also considering getting SVI parts, since I am going to get their Tri-Glide Trigger, Hammer and Sear ..

I don't think the SVI parts would be much more .. if they are similar in price I should just go with SVI right ? anyone know prices of these items from SVI ?

and one last question .. the magwell I'm looking at is the Wilson Combat Speed Chute (because I don't think SVI makes a single stack magwell/MSH combo) ..

2 questions .. Will these parts require fitting ? Will the magwell work without being blended into the frame ?

this is my first 1911(and it definatly won't be my last :) ) .. I am comfortable doing some minor fitting .. but if it comes to cutting the frame or some kind of crazy file work I'd rather leave it to a pro ..

Thanks for any and all help ..

Nightwolfe,

You can find pricing on individual SVI parts:

Here

Most aftermarket magwells will work without a whole lot of blending in my experience. Some just need it on the inside to open them up a bit. Have you considered the Smith and Alexander magwells?

I have considered the SA Magwell .. and will probably be going with theirs .. would it be likely that it would require alot of fitting ?

thanks for the link too btw ..

My S&A required no fitting to run, but I did blend the inside a bit the get the largest and smoothest possible opening. I've put 3 of them on Kimbers. 2 full sized and one 4" gun. All matched the outside perfectly.

ok one last question .. when blending the magwell .. what tools to use ? sandpaper ? and just keep taking some off till it's just one big smooth openng ?

thanks

Use the same small file set that you are going to buy to fit your thumb safety. Get some fine emery from your local automotive store to finish the job. And, yes, just blend the magwell into the frame of your gun.
