Witht he "shortage" of small rifle primers, someone suggested I try using small pistol primers for use in reloading .223 Rem. :scrutiny:

Now, I'm not new to reloading, but I'm not nearly what anyone would call an expert and am learning more as I progress. But this sounds like it might be a viable option, but then again, I don't know... So, I put this to the reloading gurus here at THR for guidance and appreciate ypur time and knowledge...

Thank you

Tom

Not a good idea. Pistol rounds low pressure, rifle rounds high pressure.

Small pistol primers==light metat cup "thinner metal"
Small rifle primers==heavier metal cup to hold the pressure

If using in a bolt action rifle you might be OK (NOT RECOMENDED).
I've experienced a punched primer in my Remington 700 with no ill effects but it wasn't from using pistol primers, just stating nothing happened.

If you're reloading for an auto I'd FORGET it. Times will get better "I HOPE".

OK... that's about all I need to see/hear...

Thank you all again for your expertise and insight...

RC: Thanks for the link... was good info as always...
