I currently CC a Walther PPS M2. Love it with a twist. I was trained on 1911s and as such ride thumbs forward and high. The meat of my support hand thumb rides the slide release. I also have big paws. So the question is for folks who also have large hands, have you found a single stack 9 that you can ride high and not hit the slide release and/ or effect the slide locking back. I am training a lot with the gun as I really love it. My issue is muscle memory and reverting to high thumbs forward, so i have to consciously cant my left support hand down more and my right thumb slightly offset. I also have to do the same when shooting a Sig 229.

My thumbs tend to do the same, and I found the XDS to be pretty good.

I have the same grip muscle memory as you. High on the gun, thumbs forward. I can't tell you how many guns my thumbs hit the slide release on.

I'm not willing to change my grip, so finding the right guns is in order.

Try a Sig P938. It has miniature 1911 feel and function. It works perfectly for me, but I have medium sized paws, so your large hands may still cause problems.

If you're willing to try a mid sized single stack, pick up an HK P7. In my opinion there is no finer high grip, thumbs forward firearm in existence.
