Smallest caliber you will carry

I've carried .22LR when nothing else was available.

The smallest I own or will carry is either .38 super or .357 magnum.
Regular carry is either .45 or .44.

I carry a tauruspt22 with Stinger lr rounds. i hear all the talk about 22 rimfire duds,however , i must have shot at least 5000 rds of cci mini-mags in addittion to the stingers and never have had even one failure to fire,?? because i can afford to shoot every day and i do, i hit what i aim at with my taurus i feel very confident in my ccw 2245

My smallest carry gun is a 32, but I would not hesitate to carry a 22LR in say an 8-shot revolver.

9mm. I had a pretty bad experience with 380 being under powered, so I won't go below 9 now.

A .17 is a really hot round with alot of knock down power. Coyotes falling like a bag of well (you know what) I would not be afraid to carry this in a pistol but a prefer a .38+P

I voted .22 only because that is the smallest I have available. However, the correct answer is the largest caliber I can get my hands on.

I voted 22 mag because my 9mm is at S&W getting the bugs out and I carry my 22 mag while waiting for the 9 to come home.

mpc12, would you care to share your experience? I have .380 and 9mm, and it would seem to me that there is not a whole lot of difference between the two.

Voted .22 lr, (my ccw is .45 acp) because ....

Coming from a rural family and a poor area where poaching was a way of life, (Northern WI.) I KNOW that a .22 can kill anything you'll find in the woods (or on the farm), and I KNOW that's it's virtually impossible to tell where a single .22 shot was fired if it's over 100 yards away. Or even closer in heavy woods!. Even more difficult at night.

A .22 pistol is just the ticket for putting a squirrel, grouse or rabbit in the pot while hunting bigger game, so my normal hunting rig is a .308 rifle and a .22 handgun (Buckmark). On those occasions the 1911A1 stays at home.

As for Self Defense ... it's still better than a pointy stick ... usually!

Just got back from a 350 mile road trip for TG Dinner. Two states. I have CCW in both. We stopped at a couple roadside rest areas, open areas so the dog could pee.

But mostly we went to dinner at relatives.

No firearm. The relatives are fine with firearms. I just didn't feel a need.

The scale model, working naval cannon in the trunk doesn't really count as a firearm.
