Guys,
I am new to the forum and need some help with a pistol I plan on using for CC. I need recommendations for a gunsmith to send the slide and barrel of a 3913 to. I would like the slide bead blasted to remove the "lady smith" (obvious reasons) markings and also have the barrel recrowned at I believe 11 degrees. From my reading I think the recrown is the correct degree to improve the accuracy of the gun. Anyone know a good reasonable price smith to do this work?

Thanks,

Welcome to THR!

Unless your crown is dinged up, recrowning isn't necessary. The 11 Degree crown lives in the world of target rifles, not CCW guns. At the ranges you will encounter, target grade accuracy isn't a concern.

As for the bead blast, where are you located? Finding a smith locally that can detail strip your slide should be easy. The blasting can be done thru the smith, or at a local mold/welding/machine shop.

FWIW, I like the Ladysmith etch :)

thanks

Highorder, thanks for the reply. I figure if it will improve accuracy for such a cheap cost why not. I hear it make a big difference with the Smiths so it's kind of stuck in my head. I live in CT and the gunsmiths here are expensive and big time backed up from what I hear. I have 4 guns out to get reblued and the wait is 4-6 months and I'm sure I am paying way too much for the ease of just dropping them off at my dealer rather than boxing them up and shipping them. A slide/barrel is another deal due to it's size and I really want to start carrying a 3913 again (had one 5 years ago). I've carried Glock 19's, kahr steel, plastic, Walter PPK's, Sig 230, HK USPc, Kimber pro carry and 10 others but really like thumb safeties, the size of the 3913 for being a 9mm. My sig 225 is another good one but heavy and big for a single stack. I wish someone would make a Kahr P9 sized single stack with a thumb safety (I know a lot of people don't like them but I am a 1911 fan). also I love the steal Kahrs but hate the plastic panel on the right side, my P45 looked like it was a mis sized panel and slapped together. So does anyone know a good cheap/fast smith for this?

It may not make any discernable difference. Is the gun not accurate now?

I have not heard that the 3rd gen S&W's need or benefit from recrowning... my 4506 is quite accurate the way I got it; used from the police. You could buy ALOT of 9mm ammo for the price of a potentially unnecessary job. Food for thought.

As for the bead blasting, try the local mold shop.
