Hi
I want to put a big dot type sight on my Smith 442. Do any of you have any suggestions? If any of you have them please post pictures if you can.Thanks.;)

I got an estimate a couple of years ago to have this done (wish I could remember where) and it was around $200.00, without the cost of the sight. A dovetail needs to be cut in the barrel. I think S&W has a 442 "Pro" series out right now that has a big dot front sight. It also has a ported barrel which I'm not interested in.

I sort of lost interest in the project for one reason or another.

I just had an orange insert placed in the front sight of my 442. My smith only charged me $30. It makes a big difference over the original all black front sight blade.

I just daub some fluorescent/bright red nail polish on my 642/M85's front sight and find that improves the sight aquisition well enough. :D

$200?

ROTFLMAO

The guns are surprisingly accurate when shot carefully. However, they're not exactly intended to be used at 50 yards.

You can buy glow paint. I'd use that, if you think you need it. The guns are also not exactly intended to be put in display cases.

I just picked up a 442 as well. No lock :)
I'll probably go the WhiteOut or glow paint route, though I would enjoy a nice fat XS Big Dot.

orchidhunter, is that a special edition 442? Is that a Gunsite logo where the lock shouldn't be?

ahfo3, It's special to me, and that is the Gunsight logo. It is the work of the Gunsight Shop, before the days of the lock. Merry Xmas, orchidhunter

I don't like my 642 front sight, I will give it a couple nice coats of paint. I might even try that glow paint that you can buy and mix parts of that with my paint.

However, so far, I like the sight just the way it is!
