ArchAngel, are those 145 grs a handful with those grips (which look nice, very nice)?
Actually, shooting that round is nowhere near as tough as you might think. The grips are full size Badger Custom grips, not the Boot grips. Having the small finger on the grip helps with recoil control a lot.

I liked the grips so much I bought a set of their Boot grips for my M642. The design seems to aid in recoil control, at least for me it does.

I put some of Underwoods 158 grain gold dot through mine...

The blister healed about a week later

Muzzle Velocity: 1475 fps
Muzzle Energy: 763 ft. lbs.

125 grain DPX rounds shot about perfect out of it, but tore the paper in weird ways. Corbon states that those fly at 1300 out of a 4" barrel, and 1085 or so out of a 2" barrel... I'm not sure that that I'm comfortable with it.

Maybe i'll try buffalo bores loading of the 125 gr barnes bullet that corbon uses, they have it flying over 1200 from a 2.5" barrel.

The 640-1 is a great little 357. It is heavy enough to shoot regularly, yet light weight enough to carry comfortably.

The 640-1 is the only J-frame I own.....or will own. Buy it. There won't be any more as nice as that one! :)

I had a notion a couple pictures of current production Smiths without a keyhole might flush Guillermo

funny...but nah (maybe I am not as predictable as you think :neener:)

The OP didn't seem to care about the same things I do. I just wanted him to consider a K frame.

Except for pocket carry, it is superior in every way.

Of course if he is a pocket carrier, it might be the perfect firearm for him.

Personally, I don't know how anyone who doesn't wear clown pants can pocket carry.

I'm inclined to agree with you Guillermo, I lost any attachment to J-frames some time ago. This one did catch my eye though and I'm glad I bought it. It's one of those guns where pictures do it little justice, once you have it in your hands you start to see just how well the designers, engineers and factory floor came together. Not saying it's perfect, but any gun with this size frame is a study in compromises.

Here, let me get your goat a little, it's the Python of J-frames :D

As much as I like my 5 Shot 357 Rugers, Your Smiths are some fine looking Firearms. Congrats.

LOL. Shoot +P all day out of an all-steel 640 chambered for .357 magnum.

Was making fun of the "python of j frames" because of the Internet bs about Colts being so fragile.

S&W hasn't made a revolver that can't easily handle +P since they started hardening the cylinders in the late 20s

Any of these will do.

deaf seems to like stainless wheelies
There's a lot to be said for stainless carry revolvers long term. I've given up choosing between the carbon steel finishes blue and nickel, and stainless. I like them all. If only my champagne taste was backed by something other than a beer budget :)

Here in Texas it gets HOT in the summer.

A IWB with a J .38/.357 almost demands stainless. Every day I wipe sweat off my packing snub (a 642.) When it gets a bit cooler I transition to my Glock 26 but hot summers and shorts/T-shirts demand discretion.

Yes I have some blue snubs, mainly Colt DS and Cobra, but I don't use them much. Now if Colt still made the Magnum Carry I might change that view but for now a MC cost about $1000 bucks, so no thank you.
