Smith and Wesson 6906 opinions?

I just worked a trade for a S&W 6906...so I've never actually shot it.
(waiting on it's arrival!)

Anyone have any "hands on" opinions of this little rig?

Carried one as a duty weapon for a number of years; great gun. Absolutely reliable, feeds anything that will fit in the magazine.

Not a match target piece, but accurate enough, and it will go BANG whenever you need it to!

Still learning to shoot mine:



From 10 yards away, I can keep everything in the 9 ring...but only if I carefully and deliberately aim and concentrate on my trigger pull. Otherwise, for more rapid firing (simulating a defensive shoot situation) I tend to be low and left. I also have a tougher time picking up the sights on my 6906 vs. my Glock 19.

Ergos-wise, it feels great in my hand. My only complaint is that, coming from the Glock 19, the bore axis feels a touch on the high side.

I had one in the early 90's that I wouldn't mind still owning. It was nice, no problems at all.
If I had a chance to purchase another one I would.

I just picked one up in January, I love it. Now I need a CS9 and a 5906 to go with it!

Great guns, very reliable. Also as above, the bore axis is a bit high compared to striker-fired rods. Like 'em though...

I first got a 3913NL, then a CS9, and finally a 6906. I'm slowly getting used to shooting them (former Glock owner). I really like the idea of using the same holsters for all of them.

They are GREAT pistols and you are fortunate to have found one. I bought one from CDNN a couple of years ago when they were selling them new for $399 and I am glad I did. Great CCW weapon.

I am trying to find a decent 5906 and it isn't easy. The supply has dried up and when you do find one, it is really beat up.

Like the others.. Great gun, reliable and durable. Cincinnati PD carried these for years, I fired a patrol officer's at the police firing range in the early 90's. Bought one for myself, but traded for a 10mm later. I do miss the gun..

I'm another huge fan of the Model 6906 in particular and the Smith line of "Third Generation" semi-autos in general. I carried one as a duty weapon for darn near two decades and the little Smith never failed to digest any round ever fed to it, including lousy agency reloads it had to endure during bi-annual re-qualifications. I'm now retired, but it remains one of my favorite pistols to carry concealed as a "civilian". I continue to trust the 6906 with my and my loved ones' life. What better endorsement can be offered?

People might complain of its trigger, sights, lack of compactness (due to the double stack mag), accuracy, general ergos and other perceived short-comings but you will seldom, if ever, hear of anyone knocking its superb record of reliability-and, imo, extreme reliability is by far the most important attribute any handgun used for self-defense can have.
