Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II 5.56mm question

I had a question about the Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II 5.56mm. My only other experience with AR-15 type weapons was long ago in the Military, about 25 years ago. It seems my friend's new Smith and Wesson AR-15 has a slight delay in the trigger reset. In the old Military version it seems you could pull the trigger as fast as you wanted to on semi-auto but not with a newer version or at least this particular rifle. Is this normal?

I have the 'Sport 1' if you will. The trigger reset has a definite 'kerchunk' when released, not sure if that's what you're referring to.

I actually prefer the slick-side receiver of the original sport. Its a great rifle, 1500 rounds out of mine so far and not a single mis-feed using P-Mags.
