I have an old S&W revolver I got from a relative that passed. I'm trying to figure out the date and info on the gun. The serial number is only 4 digits. Can anyone help me out??

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It's almost impossible to help you out with so little information. Can you post a picture and give us the first 2 digits of the Serial #? Post the number like this "56XX" There are many Smith buffs on this forum that will be able to help you if you can post more information.

If you can't do a picture , then try to give as much verbal info as possible. What is the caliber , the length of the barrel measured from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle, are there any markings on the barrel, and what are they, what type of revolver - does it break open from the top, does the cylinder swing out to the left side of the frame ? all these, or any of these will help get a proper identification.

the serial starts with 62XX. it breaks from the top. there is no trigger guard. the trigger itself isn't like a normal trigger, the trigger is like sparker of a lighter. i dont know what the caliber is. i think it is either a 32 or a 38. thanks guys

Sounds like you're talking about a smith and wesson Model 1 or model 2
Something like one of these ?

That is the style of the revolver. looks just like those. is there anyway to give it a date when it was made?? and do you guys know where i can run the serial number?? thanks

Looks like it could be the Model 1 1/2 or Model 2. Can you measure the barrel and see if it shows a caliber anywhere on it?

i have looked and couldnt find anything on the caliber. the barrel i would say is about 3 inches.

Which of the pictures above does it look most like? I'm curious as to whether it's centerfire or rimfire, but I'd hazard a guess that it's almost certainly a .32
