i have a shotgun that i haven't been able to find out much about. It is a Smith and Wesson 20 gage pump action 3 inch full choke. Model 916A the Ser Num 15BXXX. I would like to know where i could get parts for including stock and a different barrel. I would like to put a youth stock and screw in choke tubes. any information would be greatly appreciated.

i looked it up and numerich guns parts stocks alot of the s and w shotgun parts. this is a large mail order place but for me they are about 20 miles away i can just walk in.

The S&W 916 is a continuation of the old Nobel Manufacturing pumpgun design- when Nobel went out of business, S&W bought out their patents and manufacturing tooling in 1972. The 916 is a modernization of the old Nobel design, but S&W dropped it 1984, when they stopped manufacturing all shotguns at that time.

I haven't been terribly impressed with the examples of the 916 I've come into contact with. It's reputedly a solid design, but every one I've seen (admittedly not a lot of them) had some problems. It's your gun and you can do what you want with it, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it myself.

Jack First ( http://www.jackfirstgun.com/ ) is a good source of 'out of print' gun parts as well, if you need them. Best bet is just to shorten the existing stock and fit a good recoil pad if you need a shorter stock. I don't know that they ever made a "youth" version of the 916.

thanks chevy and lee for the information and the websites. I gave 100 for the gun and it looked new no wear, bumps, dings except for a slight wear on the barrel. Looks like the type of wear that would come from hanging on a gun rack. It shoots fine but a little stiff racking in a fresh round, i figure that will loosen up with use. It has a 28 inch full choke. I thought of triming down the stock and i guess i could have the barrel cut down and have screw in chokes installed. I was hoping that i could find off brand stock and barrel. hey we can always wish right. Again thanks for the information and help guys

Stocks made for the 870 are not interchangeable with 916 stocks. I have some experience with the 916 and can tell you that they are prone to be problematic in terms of function-not to mention the (admittedly subjective) handling-think boat oar- drawbacks. I consider the 916 to be the Hi-Point equivalent of shotguns-except that Hi-Points generally work.

Sounds like you're making a shotgun for a youngster? Might be more cost effective to just get a shotgun like a Pardner Pump and change the stock.

I have heard All the negitives on the 916 I have one mom bought me new in 1975 I has never failed in any way and I have killed more game than I can haul in my f 150 It is deadly on fox out to 45-50 yard with the old remington nitro mags " #2 shot I killed over 50 foxes in with it in 81

guy with barrels

Google "Corson's Barrels" to find barrels for your old S&W.

PS> gater-1, the folks who gave you names of the various sources of info and parts shouldn't need to spoon-feed you links to the websites. That's what Google is for. Google is your friend. Learn to "google it"... Just a suggestion, it will save you and others valuable time.

well me and my cousin were rough on one years ago trading it back and forth,it kept on a chuggin along,i would give 100.00 for a decent example. good luck with her.
