Anybody had any experience with the smith and wesson sigma? I bought one in .40 and at first didn't like it. I had bought a box of cheap ammo, monarch I think it was, and the dang thing jammed about every third shot. I used some winchester ammo and you could empty a 14 round mag as fast as you could pull the trigger. Anyway, how do you like them?

My good friend has one and we swapped one day at the range. His .40cal SW sigma for my Glock 23.

I didn't think it was a bad gun at all except the trigger pull was AWFUL.
It went bang and was as accurate as would be needed at 21 feet.

In the end my buddy wanted a Glock 23.:D

Not the worst gun I've fired.

Oh, And I suspect this thread will be moved to Handgun discussions just to let you know.

:)

I have one and I love it. Mines jammed only 3 times over the 200 rounds. Now its has free as a bird. I'm sure that you will enjoy yours :)

I don't have any personal experience with the Sigma but my son-in-law has one. He is a Birmingham Police Officer and cannot carry it on duty(he uses a Berreta 94 in .40 S&W and a Glock .40 cal. I don't know the model). It isn't certified for duty carry. A retired police chief told me that he would not alloy his officers to carry one.

Underated, seems to do the job, and I have no complaints 'bout the trigger (although I'm not very trigger sensitive and grew up on DA revolvers).
I like the heavier trigger pull on a SD gun.
Got a few Sigmas myself (40 and 9)-my bedside gun is a 9mm Sigma with light on the rail.

As long as you get the "E" models (Enhanced) you should be OK.

I did add a Hogue Hand-All slip on grip.

I didn't like mine at all. Trigger was awfull and I couldn't hit **** with it. I sold it and bought a Taurus 1911 45 for just a little more money and I shoot it much better.

my neibhor has one. it's my favorite gun to shoot i don't own. yes, the trigger pull is heavy, but that doesn't stop me from putting the majority of a magazine in a 1 litre soda bottle at 18yds. never seen it jam. three people regulrly shoot it and it comes with us every time. 0 jams out of about 600 rnds. a mix of blazer brass, indipendence, wwb practice ammo.

by the way, not to flame or start anything, but this is a feat i cannot even come close to with my bil's g17.

Is it an old Sigma or a the newer style? I've thought about them before, as Summit has been selling Police surplus ones for $189. They did not have the greatest track record in duty use and got a bad rep from that. Some of the FTF problems may resolved with normal wear, or you make sure the gun is well lubricated and sand/polish the feed ramp.

Mine was fine. Except for the jamming that took three trips to the smith to fix under warranty, the trigger pull that made me long for a rusty DAO revolver, and the front sight that fell out and I had to replace with Trijicons.

I hated it so bad, I still won't pick up a S&W auto. I don't care if they 'worked the bugs out' in later generations. There are way too many good guns out there to give second chances.

Was the first gun I purchased. I had an old DA revolver of my Dad's I was used to, so the trigger didn't seem bad at all to me. My wife recently got a SW 6906 9mm DA/SA, and I do like the DA/SA better than DAO, but still have no issues with the Sigma.

My SW40VE is flawless. absolutely no problems at all. Trigger was alittle tight at first but after about 8-10 boxes of ammo it's fine now. good carry weapon.

First time poster, long time lurker.

Last week I sent my 9mm Sigma to Frank Smith @ LSG Manufacturing to have the trigger worked on. He stressed to me to NOT use monarch ammo under any circumstances even if it is given to me. He said in the last month he has fixed over 20 guns that have been damaged due to monarch ammo.

Besides the trigger I also explained to him how one time when I shot the last round in the magazine the slide didn't finish in the back position. His first response was "you weren't shooting monarch ammo were you?"

Frank has been a S&W registered gunsmith since the late 70's so he really knows what he is talking about.

Just thought I would pass this information on.

I have a 9mm Sigma. The trigger is awful if you try to shoot slow aimed shots. But if you just point and shoot it's great. It gets better after a few mags too. Mine is growing on me. It forte seems to be rapid fire.

I have one in 9mm and have had the opposite experience as this one. Great groups with slow to steady fire. Rapid fire is where I think the stiff trigger is really hindering. Other than that no complaints, it is my open carry and home defense handgun...usually.
