Hello everyone, I recently got a SW 38 special ctg it is nickel plated with wooden handles that have the SW logo. I think the barrel is 4 or maybe 6in The SN is D430186 I was wondering how old it is and what it may be worth? Any info helps thanks

We need more info.

Is this a five shot or six shot?

For the barrel measurement, measure from the end of the barrel (the muzzle) all the way back to where the cartridge enters the forcing cone. If you just measure the barrel length outside the frame, you'll underestimate the barrel length by about an inch.

When you open the cylinder, is there a two digit number, maybe with a dash, in the yoke? It would look something like "10-1" or "36-2", etc. That would be a model number.

Look here for a model number.

D430,000 is a fixed sight K frame like a Model 10 or Model 12 (same gun with an alloy frame) made in 1972 or 1973. I suspect your gun either says MOD 10-5 or MOD 10-6.

Does it look something like this Model 10-7 with a 4" barrel (this one in nickel)?

In excellent condition a Model 10 of this vintage will likely sell for $250-$350. More in some parts of the country.

yes, it looks just like that one. I will check for the model number. Thanks for the help. I will post back Wednesday with more info.
