Just bought a smith and wesson model 910s for 400 dollars with everything.
Took the dang thing apart and the guide rod went to heck knows where. Called up smith-wesson and they sent out a replacement for free and was here in 3 days. next up is the range report.

It's not necessarily a bad idea to wear safety glasses while cleaning your new pistol, you know ... ;)

I can't remember ever giving a class to some newhires, instructing them in the use of our S&W pistols, where I didn't see a few guide rods launched off into space.

There's something to be said for the captured guide rod/recoil spring assemblies in this regard. :neener:

That's the usual type of customer service you'll come to receive from S&W, by the way. Nice folks.

I have an S&W 910 and I did the same thing the first time I disassembled it. I got it apart, cleaned it, and shot the guide rod across the room as I was trying to put the slide back on the frame. I can't say the gun works flawlessly, but the minor problems I've come across are supposed to be easy to fix (haven't gotten around to it yet) and for $350 with 2 10 round mags, 3 15 round mags, and a speedloader, it's not a bad gun.

Looking forward to a range report. Am interested in the same. My 908S needs a big brother.

Is the 910 a single stack? Does anyone know if the 908 or 910 can be had with an ambi safety?

the 910 is a double stack, but the grip isn't all that thick. I have pretty small hands for a guy and it's not uncomfortable for me. I'm pretty sure it's not available with an ambi safety.

The 908 is the only single stack in the economy line. The 910, 915 and 940 are wide bodies, but the third generation wide bodies feel so much better in the hand than the earlier 59/459/559/659 bricks. The 908, 910, 915, and 940 are economy class pistols. I doubt that they will come from the factory with anything more than a left side safety and fixed sights. These are purpose built guns, the purpose being an affordable S&W semi-auto for defensive work.

Man, my old 910 is on the list of guns I regret selling. Nice, simple, fun and shot great. I put the houges on mine and it got even better.

BTW, smith is producing 15 rounders for it now.

It can be upgraded w/ the ambi safety and better sights but the smith custom shop has to do it, $$$.

If I find one a good price, I might have to buy it.

The 908 (for me) was purchased because it is small for concealment and home defense. It's also simular to the 3913, but cheaper in price. Personally, the one side only decock safety was a selling point. For SOB carry, that's one less device to poke you in the back. For a righthander, that side of the gun is flat.
