I've done a bit of searching and have yet to see what I'm looking for. At this point I don't really know if what I want exists. Time to ask the experts. I've got a newer Smith & Wesson round butt K/L frame 686. It came with the typical finger groove rubber grips. I would like to put set of wooden large target "conversion" grips on it. I'm trying to duplicate the square frame look of years gone by with a round butt revolver. I've seen a number of manufacturers that offer finger grooved wooden conversion grips but I would like to have the large checkered "Coke Bottle" Smith grips. I haven't went so far as to call S&W just yet but thought I would ask here before I did. I didn't find the answer here and I've done the E-Bay and Google searches. I got a Hogue catalog and called them, they acted like they could make what I'm asking for but I wasn't convinced that the service rep really knew what I talking about. I wasn't comfortable with what he is saying. Does this animal exist? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Eagle grips makes such a thing. They make a reproduction of the old "Cokes" that ain't too bad. S&W offers something similar on their website.

Use the search function (or google) here and you'll find references to many, many manufacturers of S&W grips, someone will have close to what you are looking for.

You may also just want to look through the revolver pic thread till you see something that strikes you and ask the poster where they got their grips.

Drop by the S&W forum and ask there as well.

Thanks guys. The Eagle grips look like they have some potential. I've been on the S&W site and couldn't see the conversion target grips for the K/L frames. They have them for the N frame which is the same as the Midway link provided. I had looked over Midway's site and will again.

I've sent S&W a note (this brings back bad memories). I had some bad communication dealings with Smith during their lack of Customer Service hay day. It was during a period of time while they were in the process of changing corporate presidents and I had a service/warranty issue. It turned out to be a disaster and in reality they ruined a revolver that I wanted to have hard chromed and engraved. Their Performance Center laser etched the pistol instead of engraving it. I had documented every communication I had with them including dates and names of Performance Center employees I had spoken to. These employees were going out the door during this time frame. I took my complaint to the office of the new president and though he apologized he blamed the problem on the company's changes, acted like it was his predecessors problem and would do nothing for me. This went on for months and they actually misplaced my gun for a while. I had to pay to get it back even though they had made the mistake. I really got hosed. I stopped dealing with them for a number of years though I guess the blow has softened. I guess this conversation is all subject for another thread but it's too painful to deal with. :D

The gun in this story is the same pistol I'm looking put the grips on. I'm putting them on because I can't stand to look at it with a bad laser etch and rubber grips. I've got some after market finger groove wooden grips for it and though they're comfortable, they're ugly. I was hoping to get the new grips, see if I couldn't make myself like it and actually shoot it.

Yeah, I saw the Hogue's but would prefer to find the look of the full butt instead of having the pinky finger relief like Hogue has. I guess what I really want is a set of Smith but fear they don't make them.

A little more Smithy. Need to have a flare at the bottom. I like checkering also. I know, I know, a little on the picky side. The Eagles are pretty close though.

You can use the Square butt Smith grips, either checkered or plain, just mix up some Brownell's Acraglas gel and fill in the gap on the back side. put oil on the gun and plastic wrap on one grip panel and it works.
