Smith & Wesson Model 63

Below are some pix of my new S&W Model 63. I only did a half hour range session today to get it somewhat dialed in...so I went with single action only. Sweet single action trigger!

The target on the left was shooting with my arms pretty well braced on a bench. The one on the right was a free two handed grip (as evidenced by the low shot that is apart from the group). Both are from 10 yards.

I'll bring it down and to the right next time I go out. It also looks like I'll have to get the target wheel out, since my free handed shots are hitting a little bit to the right of the braced shots. Maybe I'm giving the J-Frame trigger a little too much finger.

All-in-all, I'm very happy with my new toy!

When in the field mine goes everywhere with me and has since 1985. When flying in Alaska it was always in my helmet bag with 100 rounds of ammo.

I basically taught myself to shoot a handgun with such a gun. I have a mod 34 but I liked my 63 better.

Sweet new gun.

Try some different hand positions on the grips. I'm finding out that my revolvers need a lot more trigger finger than my semis. For my revolvers I've moved to having the trigger sit almost up to the first joint and it's really helping with my double action shooting.

Also having gotten Wolff spring kits for both my revolvers I can't say enough good things about the Wolff kits. One of their spring kits for the 63 should be a central part of any trigger work.

Marklbucla: I got it at www.budsgunshop.com. For some reason, it came up in the search feature but did not come up in the big S&W handgun list.
BCR: I'll give some different hand positions a try...I'm still at the start of the learning curve and you give good advice. Good tip on the Wolff kits...but I want to make sure it goes bang every time, even with cheap ammo.

Nice gun, I wish that S&W made these and the 35 with a 5" barrel. I have a S&W 35-1 with the 6" barrel and it is just a bit too long. I also have put in a wolf spring in mine, just the trigger rebound spring and it makes a world of difference.
