Smoothest, most accurate 1911?

A slide locking back with ammo in the mag, now thats bad!! And is something that my Kimber UCII did. Not locking back is almost always a mag issue, and I could care less if they do....Tactical mag changes are a good thing to learn if you carry back up mags, if you dont carry spare mags, it really dont matter!:D

Oh yeah,
Merry Christmas!!

Premature slide lockback is a slide-stop issue, easily fixed with a dremel.

I'd keep the Beretta and use it as you'd planned to use the 1911. Beretta's have a solid reputation and you'll find it a lot less expensive to shoot the 9MM Beretta to that level performance than to put a bunch of rounds through a .45ACP 1911.

Search for posts from forum member Shipwreck or send him a PM and ask his advice. He's had a high end 1911 or two, but has moved to the 9MM and has a "Wheel of Beretta's", in other words, a bunch of them. I think the pistol you already have will do pretty much what you are asking for.

Now, if you just want a 1911, that's cool too. I like the 1911 a lot. I spend a lot of time perusing gun shows and gun shops looking the "next best thing", but I haven't found anything I like better than the 1911 I bought over 20 years ago. It sure has saved me a bunch of money buying guns I wouldn't really like.

You'd actually probably be better served buying a back up Beretta 92FS, than getting a 1911, especially if the Beretta works for you.

I guess what I'm saying is, I've had a huge brain fart on my weapon upgrade, and not realizing that if I want something better, it's probably going to cost more.

So to everyone I've been a dick head to, I'm sorry.
It takes an open mind to reevaluate a pre-conception...that makes it easier to forgive/accept...the apology is very nice too.

Don't feel bad, I still have a hard time wrapping my mine around a used S&W M19 going for more than $200 or a H&K P7 going for more than $400...that's what I paid for mine; but I'm old

Really? So we should let our attackers get in closer? Is it to make it fair?
My only point was, that would be a rare situation from everything I've read about stats on armed incounters. From what I've read, most are in your face and up close.
Maybe he said 25', not yds.

To the OP, sorry for getting pissy, I was just trying to make other suggestions. I love the 1911 platform, but for a carry gun I just went a different route.

I shoot competition with 1911s. All 3 of them are pretty much stock other than trigger work and magwells. They'll all shoot 30+ rounds in as many seconds without a hiccup. And all cost $1000 of less. I don't need them to do much more than that.
That Beretta you have is a great gun! I wouldn't hesitate to strap that puppy on my hip any day. Accurate and dependable.

no, I meant yards. I was referring a battle-field situation, not domestic attacks on the street.

The 9mm doesn't have the energy transfer that a .45 has. And I really hate that first DA shot, I almost always miss that one and I can't carry it cocked with a safety on, and the 9mm ball just does not work as well as a .45 ball when it comes to putting someone off their feet.

Hollow and lead soft points are fine, but they're not an option, and probably wouldn't do well on body armor. My choices are... 1911, HK USP, or the Beretta. The 9mm can go thru light/soft body armor, but it still lacks the knock-down power I'm looking for.

The reason is parts and ammo availability. I think I mentioned a 10mm 1911, but I'd still have to provide my own ammo.. decided against that. For qualifications, .45 can be provided. I could get an HK USP .45, but this is out-of-pocket as my personal weapon and I've heard enough horror stories about their custoemr service to not even consider them.

I have no problem carrying a 9mm into combat, but by golly I'm gonna have a .45 too, either way.

My POV on the 9mm though is this: It was desgined to wound, not kill. If it DOES kill with a lower body shot, you should still have enough time to interrogate the victim before they bleed to death. And I think that's the purpose of the 9mm, gathering information/wounding/taking up enenmy resources, not killing. Since it requires more man-power and money to care for the casualty.. I'm not concerned with that, I want them down for the count. Period.

When facing too many to take out with 8 shots, I'll switch to the beretta and leave them or ... gather intel.. whatever. But on a sweep/raid, death is the name of the game unless you're there to capture, but time is a factor; you don't wanna spend too much time exchanging shots with people who're already shot up and still firing while bleeding out.

Concerning battlefield situations, just as an aside, when I was in Vietnam I was issued a .45, some worn out old thing that rattled around when you fired it. Never could hit anything with it that wasn't less then 10 feet away, better off just throwing it.
