My wife and i would like to try a lever rifle in say 357 or 45LC. she is not that strong...and so a lever thats easy to recock is a must.

which one has the smoothest operation...marlin henry winchester other??

thanks..........Bill

Winchester Model 92 lever action.
.357 shooting mid range .38 special loading in a .357 cartridge case would be best for the average female shooter.

Out of the box, probably the Marlin. If you can send it off to Steve Young first for an action job, then the Winchester 92 or one of the 92 clones like the Rossi Puma.

If price is not a factor, then one of the nice 66 or 73 clones, such as the Uberti.

I have a Marlin 1894C in .357, and it is pretty smooth and easy without any additional work, and only gets better with use. I have a Rossi 92 in .45 Colt, and it was pretty stiff prior to having Steve Young work it over. Now it is smooth as butter, and better than the Marlin.

no, no, henry wins hands down. Unless... if you find an old marlin Mod 56 , chambered for one of their rare centerfire offerings. you see , the Marlin mod 56 had what is called a 'speed cam lever' which is totally unique. it requires only your last two fingers , pinky and ring, to be inside the ring, and flick your fingers down. the speed cam does the rest of the action for you, yet it still only needs to move down about 2 inches , then back up. So , if you can find one....
