Anyone have any recommendations on smoothing out the trigger on a AR15. I tried replacing the springs with lighter ones and it helped a lot, but, when I went to the range I had around 9 light strikes in one magazine. Should I polish all contact surfaces? Someone has to know! Thanks.

It's a long slow learning adventure, Brandon, and see how far you've come so quickly?

You now know that you changed to too light a mainspring.

One thing I have heard is that the case hardening on the parts is not to be disturbed. if you file or polish through it the part won't hold up. I can't say if that is true but it sounds like something to research. I'm not seeing a lot of DIY trigger job info on AR's. Some of the drop ins I've handled were very nice. Downside is the dollars involved.

My AR-15 trigger job is spelled J-A-R-D.

Seriously.

The last time I tried to polish an AR-15 trigger I musta worn thru the case hardening because the trigger wore very quickly and began malfunctioning within 1000 rounds.

These days, I keep USGI triggers on my serious ARs and learn to shoot them as well as I can, and put Jard triggers on my AR15 hunting/sporting rifles.

Yes. I've got a Jard in my varmint AR and it really is a beautiful thing right out of the box. Also amongst the cheapest of the aftermarket triggers.

Polish is ok, but as stated above do not reconfigure the angles and ONLY POLISH the metal. Otherwise new parts are in order. Jard, JP, Chip McCormick, Rock River all make good parts. And yes it sounds like you need a stronger spring, OR you need to make sure that you have the hammer spring installed correctly. Make sure you have the legs of the hammer spring in the right place. Most common error in putting things back together is not putting the spring in the correct spot, and light strikes will be the result.
