Snake & Bear Country -- how do you load?

don't go into the woods often enough

Contrary to your opinion, Asknight, I spend LOTS of time in the woods/fields (sorry, but I dislike being painted with a broad brush statement). I don't live in the south, so all I have to watch out for are prairie rattlers. My philosophy here in the high desert: DON'T go thru cover/areas that are prime snake habitat if I can't see where my feet are going and, on a hot day go around the sunny side of the rock/bush/etc; on a cool day, I take the shady side. Works for me. If I did live in the south, however & there was greater potential to encounter a snake in "difficult to see terrain," I do believe my feet & lower legs would be covered in bona-fide snakeproof boots/leggings as opposed to lace-up Redwings. Now given the choice between mine or me being bit and the snake surviving, the snake loses every time. If I don't perceive it as a threat (such as the one at the range this morning), I'll remove it away from where I found it, if necessary, otherwise I avoid it & leave it alone.
