Hey all,
Hope everyone's feeling good.
How many of you will keep a range bag in your car so that you can sneak off to the range when you're supposed to be doing other things? I do, been slow at work for the past several months so I've been keeping a few hundred rounds and my shooting gear with me so if I'm off early I can blow off some steam on the range without having to negotiate it into my busy weekend schedule. With a 1 & 3 year old and house full of chaos I don't get to shoot nearly as much as I used to so love the chance for some "aroma therapy" without the guilt trip I get for blowing off my obligations for a little me time. Anyone else shooting when they should be doing other things?

I'm long retired and don't have to sneak anywhere. I do have to take my phone when I go off by myself or I catch a lot of flack if I don't and it's not just from my wife. Kids, grand kids, and great grand kids pile on if they find out and it's simpler to remember to take the phone than listen to the fuss after forgetting. I keep my shooting gear in the rear of my jeep wrangler. All I have to do is add guns and ammo-----and that damn phone. :D

I must have seen the future, I'm off and it's not even noon. Going to my old shootin' spot- cy arsenal (a small local spot) because it's cheap and usually never busy during the week. I've got to get up to the range @kmw1954 works at for some longer range testing one of these days but it won't be a sneak out operation unfortunately- planning required. Going to shoot my 6" gp100, have a few hundred rounds of 158 swc over 2400 in my bag, not going to shoot the g20 I'm carrying today .

Well, if I really should be doing other things, I do other things. THEN I take time to do "me things". At this point in my life, I have come to believe that sneaking around and lying to those you "love" is never a good idea in the long run.

Never said anything about lying, but I won't volunteer information.

Nooo...I would never dream of doing something like that. No more than a couple times a week anyway. The property I shoot on is family owned, so there's always the need to run past and check on it since I live closest and it's only a mile or so out of the way. I don't explicitly say I went shooting, but I'd be shocked (or at least pretend to be) if she didn't already guess why it sometimes takes an hour or more to "check the property".

No, but like you, I've done other things when I should be shooting.

I occasionally make a “detour” on the way home, but my wife knows about it either before or after. If I am on my motorcycle I may take one or two guns but in my car I may take several.
The indoor range I belong to isn’t usually busy in the mid-afternoon but when it’s really hot out I skip range trips because the Range gets pretty warm inside.

Tore the muscle in my right calf two days ago. Wearing a plastic, large med. Boot most of the time, to last at least 3-4 weeks.

Can't wait - in a few days - to sneak to the nearby private shooting club, step out, slowly refasten the boot's eight or so velcro straps.
And do something outside. With torn muscle no more 5 days running (30 min.) and 5 days' bike ride and 2 days' Krav Maga,--all of this, per week, for a while.. Age 65.

At least shooting will work. With many cases of ammo stored over several years, why not enjoy some of it?

When I was working I was a traveling salesman with a large territory. I always checked out every gun and pawn shop along the way.

I carried my range bag along with a few boxes of all of the common pistol Ammo in case I bought a gun.

If I bought a gun while out of town I would head for a river or get under a overpass in the country and fire away.

I used to carry an empty rifle case in the car just in case I bought a rifle. I could then transport it to my car without generating "man with a gun" calls.

Also, I almost always drove a station wagon, and in some of them it's hard to hide an uncased rifle without folding seats over and other complex subterfuges. (As opposed to an uncased rifle which just screams "gun" to casual glances.)

One exception was an Audi I had which had a ski storage compartment going from the trunk to under the back seat.

Those were the days when it was fairly likely for me to stop by a sporting goods store and buy a gun just on a whim.

Pistols, of course, you could carry back to the car without the same kind of problem.

Due to Friday Mr. Mom duties as chauffeur to several kids (mine and neighbors’) to and from school I usually would sneak to the range for a leisurely few hours every other Friday.

Now with Covid, kids and wife all teleschooling (wife’s a teacher) I can only sneak out every three or four Friday’s.

I used to be able to slip out to the sheriffs range to quickly shoot a box through new gun to “check the functioning”, but with the Covid restrictions they’ve put the kibosh on that, too.

Stay safe.

Sorry. Wife and I are a couple of those "long-time retired" folks. Covid hasn't changed our "leisure" time much, and our "range" is a county gravel pit about 2 miles down the road.
Besides, I'll be going to my usual Wednesday afternoon men's bible study down at the local diner/gas station near Downey (about 12 miles from here) in a little while, and there's a real public range just over the hill from there. Sometimes after the bible study, I drive over to that range and pop off a few rounds of something. However, if there are other people there (which is rare) I just drop by the gravel pit on my way home.:)
