Saw a used P220 with a neat finish on it, looked like chrome, but may have been polished nickel, real shiny with all the controls finished as well about a month ago. Did not have the funds to even put down for layaway as I was already layed up. Hoped and prayed noone would buy that sucker but sure enough a week before I was freed up for a down payment, the thing sold.

First, I'm going to admit that the finish had me drooling and while the P220 is an awesome platform, it was the finish that inspired me as I already have a Sig P220. Obviously you don't buy a POS because it has a shiny finish on it.

The questions:

Have you ever bought a reputable firearm on finish alone?

Have you ever had one get away and what were the circumstances?

Post some pictures of unique finishes and explain what the finish is.

Don't buy a used gun on finish alone. Take it apart and check it out. Are the springs good? How does the trigger feel? Is it clean? Are there any cracks in the frame or slide? What do the magazines look like?

I will NOT buy a used gun that is dirty. There is no excuse for crud in the barrel or action, especially when it's being sold.

A few years ago I had a chance to buy a never-fired, still packed in original cosmoline, US Army surplus M1 Garand for $700 and turned it down. Why? Why did I do that???

Well, I saw a blued Colt Delta Elite not long ago on a local website that looked to be in pretty good shape. The seller wanted $800 for it, and for that price you got six boxes of ammo to go with it. If I'd had the money, I'd have checked it out further...
