Snubnose?

i thought the classic definition was under 2.25 inches, but closer to 1.75 inches?

I'd say it depends on the gun.

Meaning that I'd consider 3" a snub on an N-frame or X-frame. But a J-frame would have to be less than 2". I might let the SP101 slide at 2.25".

I think 2" is concered by most as the proper length for a snubbie, but IMHO, 2.5" is still a snubbie.

I dunno. I would have said 2.5" and under.....until I found my 3" 64 with Bantam grips. It's a pretty nice snubby......if it is indeed a snubby at all.

Generally speaking, three inches and under. It also depends on the size of the frame and the barrel length in proportion to it. I would consider a large N- frame S&W revolver with a three-inch barrel to be a snubnose, but would not consider the small J-frame in this length to be one.

I have learned to define it relatively.

On an N-frame sized gun, 3" or less
On a K or L frame size, 2.5" or less
On a J frame sized gun, 2" or less

Like most things in life, it's relative. Plus it just looks proportionately correct:

I agree, under 3" yes but 3" no...

I usually think of a snub nose as a 2" barrel but with a larget gun I would say a 2.5" barrel would pass.

It is a short barrel revolver so I would have to go with anything under 3" as ArchAngelCD said 3" no. I do not know Arch but have read alot of his posts and he seem to be one of the most if not the most person in the know when it come to snub nose.

In Oro's picture above, I would say that three of them are snubbies, and one is not.

I'm with the majority that anything under 3" in any caliber is a snubby, but a 3" is not.

I was thinking the same thing. Usually, that would mean less than (not including) 3"

On an S&W, a 3" has a shortened ejector rod starting on the N frame, so you would have to include it if that were indeed your definition.

It's all so relative...;)

I'd say 2 1/8" for J-frame/small frames and
2 1/2" for K, L and N frames.

I have a 3" BBl on a 60 in .357 Magnum and it's no
snubbie.
