So, I just purchased a Llama .45 and after closer inspection, the gun will fire without the grip safety depressed. This is my first 1911 style weapon, so any help would be appreciated. Is this a matter of a simple part replacement or will I need the services of a gunsmith? This isn't a carry piece, just a range/plinking gun so I'd rather fix it myself. Also how much parts compatibility do the Llama's share with an actual 1911? I know the mags interchange but that's about it. Also, can anyone recommend a book with some good detailed diagrams on the 1911 and it's parts and repair?

Thanks

Oh and if it matters, this is a fullsize gun, was imported by Stoeger and was made in 1984.

If it is new why don't you try contacting the company?

Otherwise just pick up a gunsmiths book on 1911's. They are out there.

It's not too bad. You just need the right tools and a book! My guess is that someone stripped it down and didn't put it back together right or disabled it somehow yeah?

Pistols really aren't difficult to work on if you have some mechanical ability.

The Llama mfg. is no longer in business.

Some parts interchange, I know the trigger does, also the recoil spring and guide and plunger.

As far as a parts blow-up go to Numrich or gun parts . com

I have the Lama 45 too. Several years ago I loaded it up, aimed and it empied the whole clip almost instantly. Full auto. Never have heard any automatic fire so fast.

I took it apart and found a broken sear. Couldn't get a lama version so I bought a colt version. It is a little different. I reshaped the best I could and fitted and tried the gun and fitted and etc. till it worked fine. (as far as shooting goes)

But after that the grip safty doesn't work and the main safty will slip off too if the trigger is pulled hard.

Maybe someone has done the same to yours. Or your stock sear is wore or has something wrong with it. I should take mine to a smith and see if it can be fixed right. For me I don't mind no grip safty but the main safty would be nice. I don't carry mine around loaded.

If you take it to someone to fix it you also might want to have a piece of metal braised on the back of the grip safty where the hammer comes back and hits. With the stock version it will bite the web between your thumb and fore finger and pinch or cut it bad. I added a small piece and no more problems with that.

I have an older (1980s) LLama .45 pistol and "most" GI parts will interchange. I replaced my trigger/grip safety spring with a GI part and suspect the grip safety is interchangable too. I would replace both if I had the problem you describe.

The Llama Max 1 is a different gun from the old Llama .45. The latter was a near copy of the Colt but few parts are really interchangeable, though some other 1911 parts can be fitted.

There are literally hundreds of books on the 1911. Some, like the Kuhnhausen books, are highly technical, others more general, others aimed at the collector. I suggest, if possible, that you visit a gun show; most shows have at least one book dealer, and most also have someone sellling 1911 parts.
