There are differing opinions on its effect on society etc. but I find myself sitting here thinking to myself....

I love a good action movie. I grew up playing cowboys and Indians, war, cops and robbers etc. I have played lots of violent video games etc. etc. I now own lots of guns and ammo and love to shoot.

All that being said the thought of harming another human being absolutely turns my stomach. I cannot imagine having to be put into a situation where I would have to harm another human being. I sure as hell wouldn't harm another over a TV or a car etc. Stuff can be replaced.

At any rate is it my upbringing? I was always taught the difference between real and fantasy. I was always taught that violence is an action of last resort.

At any rate I really feel that, yes violence in media can have an effect on development but only if there isn't an adult figure there explaining the difference between make believe and reality.

Sorry just babbling and hoping that everybody here realizes that violence is an ABSOLUTE last resort to be use for defense of self or others and that there is no romance in real violence. That being said I am off to watch Commando now. :D

I love action movies. I probably love horror movies even more.

Unfortunately, the reality is that without an adult figure to guide a developing mind, the line between fantasy and reality can blur, and far too often this is the case in modern society.

It all comes down to parenting, not what's on TV.

Same here. Love Dirty Harry movie, abhor real violence - BUT - I abhor violence directed at myself, my friends or anybody within my sphere even more.

Remember, knowing the difference makes you a true human. Raise a family, grow vegetables, be kind to the unfortunate, help people as you can and live life a full measure.

Stop violence when it presents itself. Anybody that beats their swords into plow shears typically farms for those that didn't, so remember to hone your skills and awareness is #1 on the runway. The ability to act, fight OR flight, is a good skill.

Reject violence as you can, but commit when you can not.

I live in an urban area of idiocy, violence is common here, so keep this in mind, and no, it doesn't make you paranoid.

1.) It CAN happen.

2.) It can happen to me.

3.) It could happen today.

4.) I will be prepared.
