So I missed a minor detail today...

I surprisingly haven't had that happen to me. I forget everything. I have the memory of a gold fish, but I always remember to put my gun in it's holster.

My handgun used for CC never is away from the holster except to clean it. I rarely even remove it from the holster, Pants go on then holster & pistol together. then the wallet followed by other stuff. I do find myself from time to time walking to a door of a resturant that serves, NC does like you to CC in a place that serves alcohol, before haveing to return to the car ot truck to lock up my pistol. 26 years of carry and I just don't remember forgetting my CC, but I am getting older. Might have??

takeoff checklist

Many years ago, in the military, we joked about this checklist...

--Watch
--Wallet
--Testicles
--Spectacles...
...Cleared for takeoff.

--I have not carried a watch for 10+ years, so we can scratch that one.
--Wallet...yep, haven't figured out a way to walk out the door without it.
--Yeah, they've been disconnected from the pipeline, but they are along for the ride.
--After Lasik about 12 years ago, these are also surplus.

So the modern checklist is:
--wallet
--keys
--folding pocket knife
--handgun

and, usually, a spare magazine or speed loader.

Keep it simple, work to consciously develop good habit patterns, and you will do just fine.

Is this better or worse than a Secret Service Agent leaving her weapon in the lavatory of a plane?

Much better. Mine was still in the safe, presenting no danger. Not that I assume there's a terrorist on every plane, but if someone finds it and accidentally discharges, it can cause a lot more problems on a plane than on the ground.

Orion, my coworkers are wondering why I'm laughing (re: the pipeline comment). Although I have to ask why it's on the checklist - someone forget those once?
